Why don't we write to Obama about TL tranny problems

President Obama fixed the Toyota uninteded acceleration issue.

Why don't we write to President Obama about Acura dumbing cars with poor or defective transmissions ? It seems that Acura is not taking serious responsibility for their "luxuary" cars since 2000. All that they are doing may be replacing worn out parts, rather redesigning and replacing defective and poorly engineered transmissions. Slipping transmission is a safty issue as it is like applying brakes with no brake lights on. It's time that these cars need to get serious about their transmissions.

Well Acura did redesign the transmission to some extent in 2005 and also extended the transmission warranty to 7.5 years. Do you want Honda to extend the transmission warranty to lifetime? That would be extraordinarily expensive for them and we would see even worse products come out of Honda/Acura than we already do.

Lol, is this serious?
You joined this forum so you can gather ppl to send complaints to the president about a car you bought?

Acura already did the extended warranty, if it rlly bugs you then you should have bought a different car.

Well, I think Honda/Acura has done a decent job to warranty them.

BTW, welcome and watch the typos!

Good God.. the President has far more pressing issues, like trillion dollar deficits, than to deal with such things.

Call a class action lawyer if you're really upset. Frankly, there have been many far worse things to happen to cars that were never dealt with properly. You're not going to get anywhere.

Nothing is going to happen past this point unless you are purchasing new cars from Acura on a regular basis. They could car less that someone bought a car used that they made over 10 years ago. They are got their money and in there eyes they fixed the problem and helped there customers. I sti would say its a terrible design transmission and it shouldnt be failing in less than 100k miles if maintained properly. It will be a waste of your time to try and get something down that hundreds of people have already tried to accomplish. At this poit your time would be better used researching an 06-07 Honda accord v6 transmission swap into yours. It will be cheaper and has been more reliable for people so far. Plus the shorter 4 and 5 gear is nice.

want to know how many ford tempo/taurus line trans crapped at 50 ,,no warranty after 36!
how about gen3 TL,,50k trans warranty! no goodwill on failure after that,,5 grand replacement fee!
or other car brands with similar trans as the TL = 50k and tough luck buddy

its only been in recent years,,mindful the TL was designed built and discontinued over a decade ago...that cars now have 50 or 100kmiles trans warranty
and that was started by smaller asian car companies trying to prove faith in their own product

Note: a slipping trans from clutch pack wearout is nowhere similar to electronic throttle sticking/runaway issues

we have a cable running to our throttle,,and if you keep up on atf changes the trans should last many years.

did the OP join just to whine,,or do they newly own a TL and trans went 2 days later,,
thats not their fault for poor prebuy inspection,,, and no online model history ck (acurazine) to learn of trans probs
definetly Obamas fault,,
yeah I can see that ,,if I wear `the sky is green glasses`

note on OP post: our brake lights have a safety feature-- if they dont work = the trans wont shift out of Park~

Maybe Obama will help you with your AV6 swap if you ask nicely.

LOL !
Acura did more than enough goodwill on these transmissions. Im the second owner of my vehicle and they covered 90% of a transmission swap AND gave me a 3 year/36000 mile warranty on it last year. Just that bit of service alone puts Acura on top of my list when it comes time to replace my TL. Not to mention multiple calls from Acura headquarters to make sure my experience with the dealership was excellent, a 2012 TL with tech package as a loaner for almost 2 weeks while the dealership waited for a rebuilt trans from Japan.

SO, in essence, please stop TROLLING !

those with actual bonafide NEW car problems or a serious new issue to the TL
should contact the NHTSB govt office online natl. highway transportation safety board
they do all the work with recalls

recalls are only MAJOR SAFETY ISSUES..look some up online
even our trans was just a manufacture extended warranty,as required by a court case

partial pay replacements- you were `out of covered VIN range` and they still hooked you up due to lower miles with failiure of clutch pack
Or
you were covered VIN and past limits but a good customer,,
so a call to corp,,or several calls from the service manager to the regional rep who works for acura= to ok the deal

a new loaner car -when available- is normal, but in no way required of the dealer

when you pay any part of a `goodwill warranty` deal, it comes with a 3/36 warranty

If you live in the USA the trans comes from a warehouse with a contract,,,where they rebuild acura trans and other warranty returned parts for acura,,then ship `on demand` to the dealer

this car was never intended for sale in the Japan market,,,they dont make new trans,,
all from warranty are in a new or used `post 05 case` and new `rebuild kit parts`- seals normal wear out parts,,plus new and used gears and shafts to make up the rest of it

tip: treat it like a new trans - change the fluid after 5000 miles then every year do at least 1 3.4 qt partial drain and refill to keep it healthy as possible

you are supposed to get a customer comment card when picking up your ride,,in this example using careface trans experience..and mine

service writers fail to explain this
that comment card goes direct to corp in LA where its data mined and sent back to the dealer for weekly review reviews at meetings
Anything less than perfect 10s is a FAIL grade to corp
service manager should have been notified and done whatever needed to make sure you left happy 100%...card with low marks mean someone is getting a talking to!
remarks cards affect bonus checks! state name of anyone who really took good care of you--the tech,,parts, service writer (some are good)
they will remember you when you come ask a question or looking for a discount

When you leave low marks it goes in a corp file to call and see whats wrong
corp contacts dealer to get their version of events,,arranges some sort of happy ground for customer
follow up phone calls and email surveys come if you allow them

after bad comments and call with `acura care` I got a Saturday evening call from the service manager! to see what was wrong,,corp had forwarded info to his blackberry!

Goodwill on your part in return: take a box of fresh donuts or popsicles (season dependent) for the service desk staff `and the shop`
10 bucks of thank you for 4 grand saved,,,and goodwill to all~

remember your mechanic this holiday!
I wish acurazine would allow thank you donations to me!!

I think the best solution is to just take out your trans, cut a hole in your floor board and just use your feet. yabba dabba doo!

well im not american, but my 03 tl is built in USA and i never had an issue with the car except for warping front rotors. I bought the car brand new in 2002 and the transmission shifts like a champ everyday. its just on really hot days that it starts shifting rough so i take it easy on the car in hot weather. never the less it still has the original transmission, engine, suspension, wheels and everything else that came with it including all the electronics (speakers, radio, electric window motors, etc). This has been the most reliable vehicle i ever owned and it still looks like new while consistently getting 27-29mpg on the highway. i don't know of any luxury vehicle from 2002 that gives you 29mpg with 225hp or more?
