Why is the?

Why is the paint job on my wifes 03 VW Beatle so much better than on my 03 TLs? I use the same wax, the same detailing mist, everything the same. I invest less than half the time on her car than I do on mine, yet the shine never dulls, never any water spots. The shine is so deep you could fall into it. Maybe it`s the clear coat they use or maybe it`s the color? I`m open to suggestion. Take a look at my Gallery and you`ll see what I`m talking about.

Thanks.

Kind of hard to tell with pictures I guess, I looked at the side by side in front of your garage and the Acura looks more lustorous to me Maybe it's the actual color difference too, but water should be hitting the wax not the car so...my car comes clean really easy with wax on it. Word on this board is that the paint is thin on Acura's though, so maybe that's it.

I know what you mean. My friends Jetta always looks soo deep and shiney after we wash our cars. My car is nice and it shines really nice but for the first day his car looks so much nicer.

Bear2Day, I think it's the color of the VW that gives it the depth and "wetter" look. The green is a little "flat", but I think that's just the color/clear. What products are you using ? Sealants or Carnubas ?
Seems to me so far that Acura has one of the weakest paints out there. This is my 4th car and I have so many chips it's disgusting. Maybe VW takes more care in their paint as well.

Mitsubishi has the WORST paint in the auto industry, period.

I'm quite happy with the paintjob on my car, but boy, you should look at my '97 Tahoe (formerly mine, now my dad's). Holy crap, does that thing still look new.

I think it's the color, it just doesn't have the natural bling to me.

acura paint problems...yes!

i've researched the issue of acura paint problems...overall, acura's paint seems to suck...common complaints include:

1) easily chips (paint/rock chips);
2) clear coat peels; and
3) here's my "fav," small lumps in the paint (some below the clear coat and some actually causing raised bumps)...the size of pin holes...I've seen a few shops who say it's listerally dust in the paint...this site has had a driver who had a strand of hair in his paint!

Any further comments would be appreciated...

How was the VW painted? Vapor system or melted on (like the Tl's)? The paint is definitely substandard - I bought my Outback used, and have restored the paint (with Klasse) to a shine better than my TL's had, and even my 2003 SVT Cobra (Zaino) looks better, although it is also easily chipped.

i think half the problem is that they dont use a good enough etch on the bare metal and not enough paint and clear. judging by the thickness of the paint chips i have there isnt a large amount of material on the car (there is usually alot more thickness to ones i paint and other manufactures. but the key is that the paint isnt bonding to the metal like it should.
