Who has installed springs on their own?
I can't find any local that will install my comptech springs for a reasonable price, so I'm thinking about installing them myself using the DIY guide. I already have a spring compressor, so it really wouldn't cost me a cent if i did the springs my self. I've taken my back seats out before, and have taken off my front bumper, but other than that, I really haven't done too much modding to my car on my own. Do you think that I should go ahead and give it a shot, or is better to just fork over the cash to one of the shops and let them take care of it? Is there anything that I can really fuck up by attempting to do it on my own, and how difficult of a project is it?

why would you cut perfectly good springs.......Make sure you measure 203802804283 and cut ONCE.....

a bigone...
hey, dont cut the springs, i saw a car once go over a speedbump just a bit too fast, the cut spring must've gotten outa place and the left rear side of the car fell to the tires and rubbed on the ground etc...not a pretty image, but fun to watch. post pics when it happens!!

Now there's a genius idea of the day.
You ever see ricers bounce up and down after hitting a bump? Why do you think that is?
Those lowering springs are designed and engineered with appropriate spring rates and weight tolerance for that length and height. If you cut it, you're going to reduce its ability to withstand shock absorption and rebound.
Buy springs that are designed to lower your car even more. Don't cut the springs.

Oh, I forgot to ask. Are you cutting it on the bottom or the top of the spring? And why?
If you cut only half a coil, how do you plan to make it sit right on the lower perch? What about on the top perch? It has to sit completely even. Do you have a tool that will yield a smooth top like the springs have from the factory? Because, you know, otherwise it's gonna probably put a hole on the top perch.
And if you don't get it right, the spring could twist over time, and move from its proper position on the bottom perch, which will yield different ride height from the other corners... that is, unless the other springs move out of the proper position together at the same time. Then you will have a car sitting higher than you wanted, but you could at least tell people that you have a ride-height adjustable suspension!!

Yeah, don't cut the springs. If you want a lower drop, i would recommend buying some coil overs. I haven't done the research, but I believe you can drop them as low as 3" or something like that.
If you do put on the H&Rs, then while you're at it, you might as well put in some nice shocks. You'll save a lot of time/pain if you do them at the same time. The stock ones tend to wear out quick and then you get that on going bouncing up and down that makes the car look cheap when the shocks blow out.
I have H&Rs with Koni's. It's okay. I heard Tokiko Shocks are okay too. Good luck.

and then once you're that low, you'll need a camber kit and so on...blah blah (the basics)
Summary:
Buy spring
Dont cut em
Install yourself if you got the balls (time and tools)
Get camber kit if you're under a 2in drop
btw* nauspeed and H&R make 2" drops...but once they're in its more

walk in the park, just make sure you have a good ratchet set and a buddy to help you out. First time is going to take about 3 hours... Definatly follow the bunchofcars.com instructions. It is a great web site...

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT cut your springs. The H&R's are specifically engineered to be the length they are, and messing with those like that can yield most likely less than favorable results, not to mention a void warranty.
Trust me, once you put the H&R's on, your car will be dramatically lower. I have the sports on mine and the front drop is especially noticeable. It looks great, don't get me wrong, but I was surprised at just how much the H&R sports lower the car.
If you want to cut springs so bad, just cut your stocks. But then you'll really be hatin life driving that car.
Do yourself a huge favor and get the H&R sport #50103 spring set. Click my sig line for pictures with the drop.
