Where to start with modifications....

I know this is a pretty general question but what mods would be good for someone who is just starting out and has limited knowledge. I just purchased my 2003 TL and it is pretty plain right now.

Welcome to AcuraZine!

Well what exactly are looking forward to? Performance > Looks? Looks >Performance? Both?

If you want power, I would suggest you start with maybe Injen Cold Air Intake, Comptech/XS Power headers, or even Unorthodox Power Pulleys. If you have money to burn I guess you could buy a Comptech Supercharger if there are any available (Comptech went out of business). Also you could get an exhaust system but there are many out there to choose from.

For looks definitely look into the Acura OEM lip kit, or maybe the Wings West kit. Search for threads with pictures and you will notice what you like better. For suspension you could go with a more affordable set up like the H&R sport springs and Tokico Blue struts. That is one of the many set ups people have around here but i mentioned it because a lot of people have had nothing but good things to say about them. They give a subtle drop, not too low. If you want to go low, 3" or lower you should definitely look into Tein coilovers. Tein SS have adjustable shocks. You can lower/raise the car whenevr you want and also adjust the stiffness as well.

Well i'm sure many more people will add on to the thread so I will leave my post like it is. There are many mods you could do to the TL. Once again welcome to AcuraZine! and happy modding!

This entire forum is filled with threads about mods, from easy (drop in K & N filter) to difficult (swapping in a 6 speed). Have you read any of them?

I started with tint, drop, and lip kit. An intake would be good in there somewhere as well.

I would say the first place to start modding your ride should be suspension. Depending on the wheels you have already(assuming it's the Type-S wheels) you can start on air intake and then take it little by little there. You have to crawl b4 you can walk when it comes to modding cars(if you get my drift).

There are 3 bolt on mods that will increase the performance of your car and give you both better milage and power. You can do headers, intake and a crank pulley. Like HittingDaLine said, headers are the best bang for your buck. will add about 15-20 hp for $110 (plush shipping and installation). If you want an intake that gives you the best performace but the least amount of noise, hunt down an Icebox asap.

If you want to know more about these addons.... do a search.

the easiest/cheapest mod is to lower / throw an intake.....then things start to get pricey with the oem kit.....the wings west kit.....rims....system.....etc...
