What weight oil are y'all using
Ok, I hit the 3750 mark and it is time for the first oil change. So, I call the dealer up to get and appointment. I ask what type of oil the use. They said 5W-30. So, I said the manual recommends 5W-20, can I get that. They say yeah, but it is $10 more because they don't get it in bulk. I was like wtf. So, I called another dealer and they said they use 10W-30. Why does Honda/Acura even bother with recommending an oil if the idiots who sell and service the car don't even use it. So, I called my brither-in-law, a Honda mechanic, and he said all of the newer Hinda motors are recommending 5W-20. If this is the case, why don't these idiots buy it in bulk? So, I called Xpress lube and they did the oil change with 5W-20 for regular price. This was very wierd to me. If you expect anyone to stick to the manufacturer's recommendations, it is the dealer. No one ever gave me a reason as to why they don't buy 5W-20 in bulk. I know 5W-20 is a thinner oil, but I trust Honda knows what is best for their motors. Plus, the 5W-20 gives better gas mileage since it is thinner. Has anyone else ran into this?

Did my 1st oil change (myself) @ 1k. Castrol GTX 5-W30. I'm sticking with conventional "dino" oil. Change every 3750 miles as specified in the severe schedule, should be fine, as I've done in the past. My 89 Civic Si had 180k+ when I sold it, and ran like a bat out'a he!!.

I'm using the Honda 5w20. I heard all the 2001 Civics and 2002 TL-S use 5w20. My mechanic told me that it has something to do with the special coating in the engine block. I'm not sure how true that is.

Oil gets hot down here!
Since a major winter blizzard lasts about 30min. down here and winter runs from Jan. 15 through Jan 21,and temperatures plummet down to about 70 degrees; we usually pack in a little more viscous oil than you boys up in the lower latitudes.
I have used synthetic 10W40 since the day I bought the car. Drove home from delivery and had the oil changed enroute. Next change is due in about a week.
Wanna know what's gonna go in? I'll tell you...it's synthetic 10W40. How about that... :p :p

Sporty X type
I use 10W-30 during the summer, & 5W-30 during winter months. I like the Valvoline products & change the oil & filter ever 3750, no matter how it's driven. Cheap insurance to maintain this great engine!

I've only had one oil change so far, and the dealer supposedly put in 5W-20. However, when I initially called the service department to find out what weight of oil they put in the TL-S, they told me 5W-30. But when I got the car back from that dealer, the little sticker on the windshield said they used 5W-20. So, in other words, "who knows?"
