What is the max speed that we can downshift safely? in either automatic or sportshift mode?

I don't think SS will let you downshift at unsafe speeds...

after about 80 it will not let you downshift, though the trick is to downshift right before you get to 80 and then you are gonna get the most out of it.

if ya really wanna ream your car, you can go over redline by using manual shift (i.e. - move the lever past sport shift towards the actual gear indents). someone wanna see how fast the 3.2 can spin before throwing a rod?

Read your user's manual. I am sure they have it. Thought I live in Canada and I am not sure about what the manual says in US. But if you can't find it... I will post it here..

I can downshift to 3rd in SS when going 90, but you have to let your foot COMPLETELY off the pedal!

exactly... except you are only in the 3rd gear for like, let's say 1 second. It's useless anyways...

Our cars are computer controlled, the trannies are idiot proof, you can't over-rev the engine, any speed that the transmission will allow you to downshift is safe..Even manual car's won't let you shift into a gear the computer believes would be too high...if i was cruising at 80 ad want to drop it into 2nd, the lever will not let you engage 2nd so easily, unless you force it into second..

Is this true for all maker? I have seen alot of 2000 Toyota Celica GTS owner blew their tranny and bent valve mistaking shift to lower gear.

Cool

Thats why it doesnt take a genius to figure out that downshift right before 80 since the computer wont let you do it afterwards.

Of course, after 80 you can still move it to the right and down 2 notches (and off you go...one second my ***! )

Of all the car's I have driven(5sp), if you try to go into a gear that would over-rev the engine, the computer will not let you shift so easily...In my miata, if I was going 50 mph in third and try to drop it into first, it won't let me, unless i put 40 lbs of force into the shift and jam it into gear..it's to prevent you from accidentally downshifting into a gear you didn't wanna go into, and if you ever jump into the car with me, you will see that with my lightening fast shifts, it helps to know that I can't blow up my engine..I never noticed it popping into 3rd from fifth, but I noticed 1st and 2nd gears to be difficult to shift into at higher speeds..
