Thats the bad thing about rumors. They spread faster with worse information than the truth.

Thread brought back from the dead. (See date on post #26) But anyways, I use Royal Purple 5W30 and a Mobil 1 filter. I'm thinking about switching to a Fram Tough Guard or a Bosch Premium filter to save money.

You're wasting your time and money - you can easily go 10K with that combo.
I use Mobil1 5w30 and a Carquest (Wix) filter every 10K. I started this at 80 or 90K and just did my 180K change. Mobil is a high quality filter (all synthetic media inside) I used to use those with my diesels due to the soot load, but a quality ($5 or higher) is adequate for what our motors do. Just my on filters.

Fasttyms1 is correct, though, if you really want to be sure and are nervous about it do an oil analysis.

5w30 Royal Purple win K&N 1004 filter or sometimes use Napa Gold filter. Right now the KN are on sale on amazon and buy 3 and get free shipping.

Again, the thread is back from the dead.

Assuming you're trying to use them on an Acura, they are not the correct filters. I'm guessing they're STP filters? The correct number would ST3593A if I'm not mistaken. Those filters you have fit some early 80s Hondas I think. If they fit something you have, they should be just fine. As far as I know they don't have a specific shelf life.

Just got a 2000 TL with 190k miles.
Can I still use synthetic? I was told that with the high mileage car, it's not recommended. Since it may dislodge some of the sludge build up around the seal and will start leaking. Will need to change oil real soon. Thanks,

Oil & filter

I also use Mobil 1 5W-30 and a Mobil 1 M1-104 extended life filter and going 10,000 miles. I'm just about at 10,000 on my current oil and it still looks like honey.

amg- you can run whatever oil you want--IF its leaking now, it will still leak regardless~
Wont start new leaks

I would run half a can of seafoam in the oil then change it to get rid of crud..
for your car- install a new filter, seafoam and drive 50 miles then change everything

Alan- you are pushing it without getting an oil analysis done- color has little to do with condition except yours doesnt seem to be carrying much to the filter- it should get dirty

Oil makers know 7500 is the standard and make oil to last about 8000

Mobil1 5w-20 and K&N filter here..I thot Honda/Acura shouldn't use anything but 5w-20 because of their sensitive nature..too thick = bad for engine. Not true? A lotta you guys seem to be using 5w30 all the time and I only use that in the peak of summer heat...

Now looking back, our engines are pretty durable, any oil will work.... its the transmission you need to worry about

Not true. The ONLY reason the 02+ use it is to help meet CAFE standards. 5w30 works just fine

01tl4tl, I don't have any leak right now. Just a lot of concern.
I will do your recommendation. Do you mind I'm asking you how do know this for certain? Experience, knowledge, or both?
Thank you.
