Post What the hell happened to my car?

I was at school and it was raining moderately. I ran to my car with two of my friends and when I went to start it the first time, it just cranked but didnt kick. I was like WTF??? The second time, it cranked for 5 seconds and VERY SLOWLY kicked over. The RPM's went from 100-300, stayed for a sec, and went down a bit until I gave it a tiny amount of gas and then it was normal.

The car was warm and filled 3/4 of the way in gas. It has never happened to me before so I would like some suggestions.

Thanks guys,
Rosh

dude...
this has happened to me exactly 3 times...
count them...three times...
the first time...the weather was normal...and i was trying to leave traffic school (bad sign) but i went straight to the dealer...and they said...bad gas...they checked everything out, and everything was fine...

the second & third time...it was raining, and my car was sitting in the rain for a long time... so i think it was probably due to being hot (from driving) and then cold from the rain...(although that makes no sense at all) but... that's what i'm guessin...

maybe it's the vapor lock issue? (which i doubt....)
???
i have a 99TL by the way..

I think every once in awhile the full injection screws up when starting. That same thing happened to my '97 Nissan Max about 7 months ago. It was a b*tch to get it started and then it needed some help (tapping the gas) to get it to a decent idle. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the car doesn't make a habit out of doing it.

This happened to me when I was at a wal-mart. It was HELLA embarassing! I've been very concious about starting my car since then and it's annoying the hell out of me. I found that the car starts better if you turn it to the ON position for a second before starting. Dunno if that makes a difference, it just feels that way to me. Also when turning the key to start, I don't turn it all the way, just at the leading edge of the start range. Does that make any sense? Oh well, need some coffee. *yawn*

Unhappy

It happened to me once too like three days after I got the car. The weather was pretty cold that day and I have to get jump started. I took it back to the dealer and they can't find any cause of the problem. It's been over a year now and so far no duplicate problem occurred. Knock on wood!!!

It's happened to me too, but for it to have happened 2 times in 2 years doesn't worry me the least bit.

Question

I think it might have something to do with cool to cold damp weather?? What do you guys think?

The same kinda thing happens on my 98 Ford Taurus as well, didn't crank when i tried to start it. I was with a chick and hella embarressed, so I popped the hood looked around like I knew what I was doing got back in and it started. Told her I fixed it haha.
Also every now and again the rpms drop to the point of stalling on a cold start.

I have another suspicion that's supported by the fact that waiting in the "ON" position before cranking it may help with the starting.

I know the immobilizer chip in your key is only read when your key is in the on position. If it doesn't get a confirmed, clear signal from your key, the engine will crank but will not start. Other immobilizer keys on your keyring can interfere. So waiting a little bit for the system to decode might help?

it happens to me every once in a while in my '91 integ. as other people have said earlier...if u leave the key in the "ON" position for a sec or two, then crank...the cars starts fine. when i crank right away...only then does the car not catch. hopefully it wont happen to my cl-s. all this time i thought it was a HONDA thing too...

When you leave the key in on position for few seconds, you allow the fuel pump the fuel without burning it. maybe the starting problems have to do with not having "enough" fuel in system. I'm not sure if this makes sence, but it might help. Everytime is cold, or rainy, I wait like 2-3 seconds before cranking it up. No problems with starting ever, except for one time when i just cranked it as soon as I got the key in.
Uhhh, Am I full of it or what?
