What have you been paying for tranny flush?
I called the dealer yesterday asking for the price on a tranny flush/fill and they said $179! I could swear they told me $79 about 3 months ago. The entire 30k service runs $329 at this dealership but they do a lot more than what the manual calls for. They say that we live in extreme conditions here in Florida so we should go by the more aggressive maintenance schedule - and I don't refute that. Anyway - does $179 sound like a lot to everyone? I think they hook it up to a machine that does most of the work so it can't be labor. Also, I know this isn't going to happen but if regular tranny fluid changes would save them from swapping some bad tranny's - you'd think they would offer them for cheap (or free even).

Thanks for all the responses ...
I thought $179 seemed high. I will have to ask them if this correct. I plan to stop by in the morning - maybe they will even squeeze me in without an appointment ...

dealer response ...
I have an appt tomorrow - here's what they said: It's $179 for a full flush and $89 for a drain and refill. Apparently they typically do the drain and refill at 30k and that's why they quoted me $89 earlier. $179 for the full flush appears to be quite high from your posts. They said the drain and refill is "good enough" - what do you think?

The tranny fluid lasts 90,000 miles under normal operating conditions as stated in the manual. So I would just do a drain and fill at 30K and another one at 60K and just do the flush at 90K under normal operating conditions. If you drive aggressively or the climate is hot where you live, then maybe do a drain and fill every 15K and then do a complete flush by the time you hit 45K or 60K. A drain and refill costs roughly $80 and $160 for the flush here in the Bay Area.

dealer on the other side of town is cheaper
I called the dealer on the other side of town to compare prices on the tranny services. Interestingly - they charge $139 for the full flush and $45 for the drain/refill. That's quite a bit lower than the first dealer - but still high compared to what some of you are paying. It doesn't appear that they are using any sort of Acura price list - pricing must be up to each shop's management.

The dealer said that they do not use a machine to do a full flush as it could hurt internal components (?). They said in order to do a full flush, they do several drain and fills. Between each drain/fill they work the gears to move the fluid through essentially mixing the old and the new (sounded like they just took the car for a short drive between each drain/fill to "work the gears". Anyway - this procedure sounds a little flaky to me but I am certainly no expert!
The dealer said that you should do the basic drain/fill every 30k miles and then on the third one (at 90K) go for the full flush. I believe vtec 6300 said something similar to this in this thread ...
