What company makes Nav. software upgrades??

I have a new 2002 Acura TL-typeS and my son has the same car but several months newer model and a version of nav software that is one version newer than mine. I played with his Nav system and put in several phone numbers that weren't in my nav system of restuarants etc.(some of which had been open 3yrs or more) and neither system listed these restuarants. Please tell me the name of the company that makes this software. It was posted previously last year. The company is not Acura. I think what is needed is not a version 2 , but a version 3. I appreciate that one DVD covers the whole U.S.;however, I wish that other DVD versions would be made thatwould give detailed maps and business address of smaller towns. If you traveled nationwide you could use the current dvd;however, most of the time you would use the greatly detailed version for the surrounding 2 or 3 states you live near. I work at Scott & White Hosp. in Temple, Tx. Because Temple is a small town of 60K or so, this hosp isn't even listed, despite it is in the top 10 hospitals in size in Texas. What if you needed to get to a hosp etc in a smaller town, they aren't even listed. I love my Nav. system and it is about the best one on the market. What do you guys think?

NavTech provides the databases (streets and Points of Interest) for Alpine, who makes the navigation units for Acura. So in order to get an upgrade, NavTech has to release it to Alpine for QA and approval and then farms it out to Acura for point-of-sale (you can buy other Nav updates direct through NavTech but *not* Acura ones--you must buy them direct from Acura's web site for about $150). The current version is 2.05. Pop out your DVD disc and look at your version number on the bottom of the disc. If you have 2.03 or newer, there's not much of a difference in the databases and you may wish to wait to see what this year's update includes (they update roughly once a year, usually in the fall). If your version is older than 2.03, it might be worth the $150. The completely mapped areas are listed on Acura's web site under the owner's section.

We really can't complain about the $150 for the update. I checked out the Mercedes update, and it $135/CD. There are 9 CD's that cover the continental US - each is $135! That's over $1,200 for complete coverage (like we get with our 1 DVD)!
