Question What is the actual wattage of the Bose system?

I have read the brochure several times. I am sure Acura did not suggest the actual wattage of the Bose system. Does anyone here know if its that low not to show it on the brochure?
Even the new Sentra have 150watts. I hope this Bose system can top that. How is the base? Can some of the tl-s owners give me some insights? That you.

Well, believe it or not. I believe the Acura TL Type S's sound system is also 150 watts.

My maxima had 200 watts (Bose). What's the point in having all those watts unless you want to become hearing impaired.

The only benefit is that it gives good range.

The point of having more power, and better speakers would be the overall sound factor. I am not in any way happy with the ACURA/BOSE sound system in my TL-S...It sucks a fatty.

I would agree it is not the best system in
cars today. I had a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan
with JBLs from the dealer that sounded a little bit better....The real sad thing here is it would not have cost Acura that much to
improve on the sound system. Its still a great car over all.

Using only a four + one speaker system in the TL-S is just one more way for Acura to cut a few corners and offer the car at $31K. Sure, it may seem like they could have thrown in some tweeters behind the rear-view mirrors -- but they're prob'ly savin' some costs by not doing so. S'all about the benjamins.

From the 2002 TL Press Kit:

Audio System

With 180 watts of clean sound, the TL's standard Bose® audio system has the power and quality to satisfy critical listeners. Built by Alpine, the large-format head unit has intuitive rotary knobs to control the most-used functions. It has in dash 6 disc CD changer, cassette and AM/FM functions. An antenna mounted in the top perimeter of the rear window, eliminates the need for a traditional mast antenna.

A total of five Bose®-engineered, fixed equalized speakers are located throughout the interior. A 6.5-in. diameter speaker is positioned in each of the four doors, with a 9.0-in. woofer mounted in the parcel shelf, driven by a devoted 100-watt amplifier.

This is from the Acura website:

A customized Acura/Bose® Music System is standard on 2002 TL. Designed and built as an integral part of the car, the system is engineered to take advantage of TL’s unique acoustics. All speakers have been carefully selected and placed, and the electronics have been specifically tuned to work with the car’s interior. Bose® equalization circuitry automatically maintains proper tonal balance at all times to produce natural, lifelike sound for drivers and passengers.

The system includes 150 watts of power, two Bose® power amplifiers and five Bose® speakers. The four door-mounted speakers are Bose®-designed 16-cm, wide-range speakers, custom-equalized for TL’s interior. The rear filler panel includes an Nd® woofer with output equal to two 6x9-inch woofers, yet it takes up considerably less trunk space. And, the system can be played at any volume level without audible distortion.

Spoke to the dealer about something else today and he said that the 2002 TL's have 180 watt systems as part of the 500 changes made on the 2002 models. Apparently the content on the website wasn't updated from the 2001 models.

I happen to like the 02 sound system (I'm in a TL, not Type S, but same stereo). It has it's good and not-so-good points. The not so good points, to me, are inadequate highs, and sometimes muddy bass. The good points may outweigh the not-so-goods, though. The system's power is very adequate, and it sounds really excellent with a really excellent recording. Lousy tapes, poor analog recorded CDs, etc., may not dredge up all that this system has to offer. Not many stereos can, though.

A prior post about the superiority of this system being compromised somewhat to keep the car in the lower-$ range makes perfect sense. You want more, you pay more. Seems pretty obvious.
