Went to the track

Ok, my wife had to race the TL since her CRX is down right now waiting for the larger turbo set up. It was about 80 degrees and this was at 5800ft above sea level(Bandimere Speedway) in Colorado. All the runs were made with the car in Auto mode, as she was bracket racing.

Ran it 4 times as follows:

16.900 @ 82.80 mph
16.994 @ 82.38 mph
16.992 @ 82.69 mph
16.908 @ 83.09 mph

Wow...all within a 1/10 of a second...that's pretty consistent. Did she win?

You have to remember that this was at 5800'. This typically will make N/A cars run about 1 sec slower then they would at sea level. The other thing is that my car is '99 so it has a 4 spd in it, and it was run in auto mode vs. sport shift.

16.9 @ 83 mph?!!?? My friend's 03 TL-P pulled off 15.2 @ 98ish... Still at sea level you would still be pulling off 15.9 (1 second less)... I wouldn't even bother taking that to the track.

Like I said, we are at 5800 ft. Everything is much slower here. Plus that was with a full tank of gas. She took it because her crx is down and she is currently in 2nd place in the series we run in. She only took it to keep 2nd place (which she did).

My car is a '99 so it has a 4spd in it which does not help for acceleration, She was just using it as a sub car for the series that we race in.

it dont matter if its a 4spd or 5spd auto, there the same as far as speed goes, thats why both the 99 and 00 and up have 225hp, not more or less. I have a 99 and that time is really freakin slow,
daym i didnt know sea level makes that much of a difference? What does the sea level have to do with the cars performance?

higher air pressure at sea level than at altitude. That is why commercial airliners are pressurized.
You lose about a an inch of mercury for every thousand feet above 2000 feet.
Standard day at sea level is 29.92"hg - which is about 14.7 psi (I think).

Engines are like people, they have a hard time breathing at lower pressures.

Plus the heat is a factor, and even more so, humidity. You have less quantity of air per volume at a higher temp than at a lower temp.

Race your car on a cool night as opposed to a hot, muggy afternoon. Big difference.

Having an extra gear does make a difference, actually. With the extra gear, you could have a shorter first gear to improve acceleration. That's why the premium upscale brands come out with 6-speed, even 7-speed automatic transmissions. It can help you with acceleration, and keep the RPM down at highway cruising speed to maximize fuel efficiency. Like I've always said, gearing is a huge part of a car's performance.

Thank God that Michigan is only at about 680' above sea level. Not the best condition, but much better than 5800'. :sqnteek:

Nice times, by the way. Very consistent. Too bad she got eliminated, but it looks like she did really well!

No the 188 hp is measured at the rear wheels, which would equate to 225 or so at the crank. Manufacture ratings are bhp at the crank, But it is easier for owners to measure at the rear wheels from a dyno.

Are you implying that he did a RWD conversion to his TL? Haha, sorry I couldn't resist. 69ssrscam is right for the most part, except that the 188hp is measured at the front wheels.

Maybe I'll by the 15.2 sec ET but that '98ish' mph, nah!! The new TL runs about '98ish' in the 1/4 mile, w/6MT. I doubt a 2G TL-P will run the same traps w/o some serious mods.

With times that consistant you should be running in bracket races.

She was racing in bracket... we race a series with our CRXs normally, but her's is down right now, that's why she took the TL. Plus we were curious what it would run. It's right on par, the car stock is only rated at a 15.9 at sea level, so a 16.9 at 5800' is right on the money.

1/4 miles times for the 1999 3.2TL range between 15.2 and 16.. usually around 15.5

and auto mode really sucks so that didnt help!
