Weekend Maintenence

Okay, so now that I have had the car for almost 2 months I am going to take some time this weekend strictly for maintenance...However I have encountered a few problems and I need your answers. (I have done some searching, but cannot find a specific answers)

First off, here is the game plan:
-Seafoam (I read quite a bit if the DIY and other posts)
-Install breather filter
-TB coolant bypass
-Clean TB using CRC TB spray cleaner
-Change oil

Okay, my first question is regarding the breather filter...I picked one up today but I have been talking to a few members via pm about it and I am under the impression that the best way to install it is by doing the TB coolant bypass. However, Which lines do I connect and how do I connect them? Do I use something like this? If so, what size do I need?(Hose size) http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Heater-Hose-Connectors-Dorman_17190318-P_N3056B_A|GRP2014____

Also, I tried to clean the TB last weekend but I could not figure out how to remove the vsa TB to get to the main TB...Any insight on that?

As always, all of your information and opinions is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

its better fi u do the breather and teh coolant bypass at the same time, also u will need to run a diff line for the coolant that goes into the tb.

search for it, easy to do

why would you do those things?

Seafoam - CRC the TB air plate by removing the big rubber snout from air filter box to TB inlet

once you disconnect the coolant lines take one of the hoses with you to autozone and get the same size hose, get maybe 3 or 4 feet, should be way more than enough. you could reuse some of the same tubing too

the vsa is only connected by the rubber coupling no?

damn i cant remember off the top of my head, i'd need to see pics and my situation was a lot different from yours lol

01tl4tl: Seafoam and TB cleaning is to hopefully get her running a little bit smoother...And oil is general maintenance. As for the breather, just for the heck of it and from what I understand you need to do the TB coolant by pass to do it.

DC: I don't think so, I could not get it off, I loosened the clamp and could not get it off.

If I disconnect the coolant line, won't coolant be leaking everywhere? And which are the lines that I need to connect?

i think theres a bracket on the bottom, did you notice it?

and coolant is going to spill out but you just need a towel under it and a bolt to plug the hose, or u can just let it leak out. no harm done, just make sure u top her off later

as for the TB coolant bypass, you see where it says E-15-11. you unplug the lines from there then reroute the line, those plugs on the TB can stay without anything plugged into it, its just a passage for coolant to go in and out

Thanks man, so do I just connect those two lines somehow, or replace the whole thing?
Do you happen to know the size?

i think its 1/4" or 3/8. i want to say 3/8" not sure. just unhook it and and hook it back up to the other end with the same hose. follow one hose from the tb and make where it goes, then follow the other hose from the tb and connect the 1st hose (the one u marked) to the second hose or eliminate the 2nd hose and place the first hose where the 2nd hose came from. ur done.

you can take out one and use the other one to plug up the one you took out, does that make sense? lol the tb stays with no hoses connected to it

here is mine in my cl. if u look at the tb u can see that their is nothing attached to it on the bottom. if u look just pass that one "nipple" u will see a hose that is almost in a circle. thats what u want it to look like.

The bare nipples (I know, I know, grow up guys..LOL) make it look funny. I just did the same thing (connected nipples together) with another hose on the TB so they don't look so outta place and so they don't rust like yours rajca.

the part I dont understand is bypassing the TB heater system- especially in winter
If you are not racing the car for money...

IMO use seafoam in the oil just before change- add 1/2 can and drive 30 miles, change oil and filter
The gunk residing in the oil gallies is unbelievable, get that out and oil pressure returns to normal...vtec relies on the change in oil pressure with rpm to operate

I'm too lazy to connect the hoses back to the tb and, if u want to have fun with the car during winter u will have nice pure cold air instead of the warm air. Imo. Never had a problem with the car in the winter because of the tb bypass. And it gets down to -5 here always and even lower occasionally.

Can't say for sure until you get the code read. But wild guess would be the O2 sensor has crud on it. This usually clears up in a couple of days.

the check engine light should go off after a while, its because you disconnected the vac line and the car's computer freaks out a little.

Okay, so either the o2 sensor or vac line disconnect, but nothing to worry about?
Thanks guys for your help thus far!

One other thing that I forgot...Are you supposed to lube the throttle cables? If so what do you use, wd40 or something similar?

a CEL usually comes from not doing the hot foot drive afterwards correctly and crud got stuck on the O2- which as you now know- self clears as heat melts the stuff-
imagine what it was like inside the engine!!

Suggest noobs repeat seafoam vac and gas after 1 month or so- then good for a year

Lube the spring assembly with wd or Deep Creep- thats seafoam in aerosol can- if you used that for the intake vac cleaning and TB air plate cleaning

To really do it right- remove cables from the mount, hold the ends up and shoot lube thru cable housing- move cable back and forth- its like a motorcycle cable
I lube the spring at the pedal as well

Deep Creep is great for this as it leaves behind a protective oil after it cleans the built up grunge from old lube
Make your own deep creep with a plastic spray bottle and some seafoam
