I guess I'll add a small voice to the wind. I bought a Bel980 this summer before my trip to Orlando. It saved me a few times. Sure X-Band goes off at every hospital and gas-station and anything else with doors as most detectors do. It has also received well around turns in city driving and saved my behind there too. I set the auto-mute feature so that if it's going wild at a red light or for a long time, it reverts down to ticks instead of beeping at the top of it's lungs.

I am also tempted just to turn off X-band as it seems Atlanta uses only K and Ka, tho I have been tagged by laser several times, but what's the point, the alarm should just say "you're screwed" instead of "radar detected"

As to the front or back ?? hell if I care, slow down and let the situation subside.. they can hide anywhere anyway.

I have a friend who owns a Vette (and he's Italian so he drives insanely fast sometimes) and he swears by his V-1.

I for one want better bang for the buck... $400 for a V-1 is just too much for me. Yeah, I got a $30k+ car, but is that any reason to waste my hard earned money?

Anyway, what are your opinions on the Cobra ESD-9220WX detector with a NOAA weather radio built in? I live in Kansas City, the heart of Tornado Alley, and I've been caught more than once driving around where I couldn't hear the sirens. A weather radio would certainly help.

I used to.......

own the V1, but I sent it back because it wouldn't go off when I clearly see a cop. I bought the 8500 and love it. Longer range, but I miss the V1's indicators. My brother just purchased the V1 and loves it. It's all a matter of opinion. To me the range is more important than indicators.

Why aren't there more indicators or other radar detectors? After all they do use multiple sensors, right? Maybe they just mux them together to save cost.

my V1 is 2+ years old. Someone mentioned V1 is shipping a smaller unit. Has anyone compared the two? Is this true?

Radar detectors manufacturers are like digital cellphone manufactueres. They're not going to copy the competitor's features or highlights. That's like admitting that your competitor knows best; they want their own identity. Only after the feature has become extremely popular will they implement it and disguish it as the "new and improved....". But I didn't say this, just in case someone in particular is reading......
