Talking upgrades

hi...i have a 99 acura tl and i wanted to make it look more sporty as im 17...

i want to get tints on the windows however in new york state the law is 70% all around which is rediculous...most of my friends have tints of 25-35% and i dont remember them every being pulled over...anybody from NY have any input?

also i want to add a lighted spoiler...they are 150-200 on ebay shipped and painted to match color...has anybody purchased one from ebay? also is it hard to connect the brake light?

last i need to get a replacement exhaust tip b/c my dad lost one in vermont...probably backed up in a pile of snow...and then that was that...any places where i can find one that looks just like the oem or am i better off getting 2 brand new ones? also i tried to get the other one off but it seems the bolt is stuck and wont unscrew...guess if i get 2 new ones ill have to work at that one...

thanks alot NICK

You should do the tail light conversion and a body kit first..What a difference. If you want a spoiler call Acura of Athens and ask 4 Phillip and tell him you were reffered from Acura-TL.com You can get an oem spoiler painted for cheap. Also i bought exhaust tips on ebay for $25. Do a search on ebay an you will find them.

List price on the spoiler shipped and painted is $162.00 and I paid $404 for my bodykit shipped and painted. It is going to be hard to find the body kit now because they are discontinued. I got my tail lights from matrix racing for about $160 shipped. They look awsome and you dont need any kind of harness. Its all plug and play. The only thing I would recommend is the chrome amber turn signal bulbs so you don't get that fried egg look. The exhaust tips just look for the oem ones or look into the 3A racing tips.

matrix racing, is that a retailer near you or a place on-line. I am up in Maine so hopefully there have a website. 160.00 for plug n play tails is dirt cheap, how hard where they to install?

Here is the link to matrix racing. http://www.matrixracing.com/BI1055Details.htm

The price says $236 but tell them you saw them on ebay and they will give you the ebay price. Thats what I did. They are very easy to install. Plug and Play

If you don't have any expeirence with body work I would leave it up to the profesionals. You also need to install the torsion bar and will need a torsion bar removal tool to remove the bars.

Any body shop will do it and it will probably cost 1-1/2 hours of labor which should be around $70 maybe a little more?

its VERY EASY! the spots are already marked out on the trunk lid as to where to drill. drill the holes and after use touch up to cover teh bare metal. wiring is also VERY easy. you unplug your 3rd brake light and plug into it

it doesn't take more than 20 mins to install a factory spoiler... and really shouldn't cost you much, if it already painted. IMO

first off if i did it myself...what do u mean the places to drill are located on the trunk lid???

second off....if i go to a body shop....it should only take them 20 minutes...which means minimal $ ?????

i think im going to buy a painted, lite, spoiler off ebay for $150 after shipping

thanks NICK

Best advice by far. If you're planning on a aftermarket spoiler, they don't provide you with the stiffer trunk lid torsion springs. These springs are a must! Stock torsion springs cannot handle the additional weight on to the lid.
It would also be wise to have the dealer change these out for you. Those springs are under extreme load....one slip and it'll do some damage.

Go to https://hond .hostasaurus.com/Merchant2/instructions/tl/RearWingSpoiler.pdf (remove space after hond) and read the instructions. And I strongly agree with Lawaia, you need the new torsion bars and you need the removal tool. I installed an OEM spoiler I bought from hond (remove space again, stupid AZ software) and it came painted with the new torsion bars. The ebay spoilers usually do not include the bars. I bought the removal tool some place else on the 'net.

The name of the website is

h o n d a c u r a w o r l d . c o m

More stoopid games being played by the AZ site software.

Go there, enter the site, select TL as your car and you will see accessories for TLs. Also, in the upper right hand corner is a link to instructions. Click on that and you'll see a list of Acura instructions for installing many of the accessories, including the rear spoiler.

My point was if you read the instructions at the link I mentioned, you will get answers to many of the questions you're asking.

Here's a picture of the spring installation/removal tool, the cost is $27. Well worth the money, even though you'll use it only once. I believe you can get the new springs at this same place, handa-accessories.com

As for the trunk lid being marked for holes, open the trunk lid, look to the 2 sides, you will see 2 dimples on each side. those are where holse get drilled (if its a oem style, also it should come with a template as to where to drill)

2nd you must not be reading what we are telling you! the torsion bars arent to pop open your trunk (does yours pop all the way open now?? im betting NO. they are to help hold it open. while they arent needed, you ARE going to want them the first time you lean over into your trunk and it comes slaming down on you head or back!

The iOn adapter from mp3yourcar.com allows you to use the steering wheel controls. Since I placed my iPod on the center console within easy reach, I always just use the iPod controls. Never tried the HU controls for controlling the iPod.

i dont think there are any that would do that. all teh mp3 players get conected via rca's to the HU via those adapters. now if you got a cd changer thatsa different story

ok so if i cant control the mp3 player from the HU and steering wheel then their is no point in my laying down $60 for the adapter...i use a cassette right now and the sound quality is just fine...thought if i hooked up one of these adapters i might be able to control the mp3 player from the HU and steering wheel...but if not then its not worth the $ for me..

thanks anyways

no they cant controll the mp3 player. how would they? they are a conector that allows you to plug in the mps player via rca's to get better sound quality over the crappy tape adapter.
