Updated Tranny failed

well i posted in a few threads about how my transmission shifts a little hard sometimes under certain driving conditions. well happy easter to me, my tranny that i had replaced in october with only about 10k miles on it just went ... luckily i was very close to home and i instead took the mdx for the day... but unfortunately this failure in the updated tranny has made me think twice about keeping the car... i love it to death, but i cant afford the invonveinence this causes me... ive already had to call out of work for tomorrow so i can take it in ... and im too young to receive a loaner vehicle, so i need to consider my options now... im basically just using this as a means to vent.. but damn i am pissed... revised tranny my ass... anyway yes this is one in a million my trannys dead threads but yeah make me feel better! haha... oh ya n happy easter!

holy shit.. the post feb 05 tranny... died on you? ... wow. You have two options... well, three.

You can get a new tranny from the dealership for free which I would've done...
You can trade in your car for a better one.. which I would've done..
OR.. you can start performing a 6-speed conversion,.. which I already started. lol

It all just depends on your financial obligations.

Sorry to hear your tranny. My tranny died when it hit 26k, but the replacement tranny is still running strong to 104K until I traded in. Sometimes you have to give Acura a little faith. You can give it another chance, but if you feel uncomfortable with another replacement I would get rid of it and get another car.

6 speed conversion would be awesome, but i dont have the cash right now... i may just fix it for free and deal with it until i hit 100k ... but i cant afford to miss school (since i commute) and miss work because of the tranny being a liability... ive owned the car for all of 9 months and this is the 2nd time my tranny has went on me... im not driving it too hard either... my options are to sell it and get something else financed... or hold on to it and just pray it doesnt happen again... money is tight, and after months of searching i found this car that had everything i wanted for a price i could afford i feel like im being robbed of the experience of owning somethin i love...

i was drawn towards the tl because i learned to drive on an 03 tl-p (fathers old lease) went 75k on the 1st transmission without 1 problem.... i loved it but couldnt afford to buy it out at the time... he wouldnt lend me the money for it so i vowed that i would end up with one... a year later i was able to afford one and got it and the fact i have had this bad experience with it has disappointed me... i wont hold it against acura since i knew what i was getting myself into .. but oh well i have some thinkin to do now if its really worth it... i love my tl so im sure ill do the right thing haha.

yeah these new trannys sound like bs to me lol... hopefully everything will turn out ok... i have a quick question though... my car's gas pedal would almost seem to get stuck at times and itd be difficult to push down... and id have to apply an amount of force to press it down that would cause the car to accelerate kind of hard and make everyones head jerk in the car lol... could that stiffness be a result of the tranny or is it something other than that?

Isn't that what you get, though - a new tranny? I was under the impression the "new" trannys use the case/housing of the old, but totally redesigned "guts."

im not 100% so dont quote me on this. but im pretty sure they only fix whats broken and perform any updates that need to be done to cosider it a "revised" tranny. maybee someone else can chime in on this.

I don't think this is correct, but too lazy to research the threads to find out - too much Easter dinner!

Damn man, sorry to hear. If my tranny failed, i'd be in the same situation as I commute to school and work. And im an idoit and added nitrous to my car... which will probably kill the tranny faster.

Hope Tranny #1 makes it *crosses fingers*

Well the thing about this updated tranny thing I have never seen proof of. I just hear people on this website talk about it does anyone have a link confirming it?

I wouldnt go as far as to call it BS yet. these trannies have shown far better results as far as not failing like all the old ones. Plus even rebuilds can and will fail. Shit does happen. Especially with the volume that they are rebuilding. So far since feb 05 we have had what 3 confirmed failures? Even if acura didnt have this trans problem i bet they would have more than that in a month with a normal trans.

I would have to say Yes. there are different part(updated materials) #s on parts , and the oil jet is now internally built. (plus on my last rebuild the parts that i got for it were different that what i had pulled out. my TQ converter failed on my last rebuild)

gunk buildup in the throttle body or a cable that needs to be lubed. It has nothing to do with the trans. Try cleaning out the TB wint some carb cleaner to see if it goes away, also make sure the cable is on track and looks clean

update... they told me nothing is wrong with the trans and that i need a new throttle body.. and my motor mounts are bad... so im looking at $1500 in repairs which sucks cuz i am broke... and i asked them why my gears were slipping and all my engine lights came on they said that could be caused by this problem... i believe that my TB is bad... but could it really cause my tranny to act up like it did when it failed??

Did the tranny actually fail? (like it refused to go or shift?)

^^^ it did exactly what it did to me 9 months ago when it broke......... the rpm's started jumping rapidly then it started slipping then all the engine lights came on (check engine, vsa, etc) then it would hold gears to almost 5k rpm's before shifting really hard and sluggish into the next gear.

Did they read any codes? ask to see what they were.
Then i would bring it back to the dealer and tell them they are full of crap. The TB wouldnt cause tranny symptoms. And they are nuts for 1500 for new mounts and a TB.

they said no tranny codes came up just the codes for the tb... and yeah 1500 is ridiculous i did my best to get them to lower the price i got 15% off which still is a little ridiculous, but im kind of in a bind i need my car back asap so i have to just have it done... this should be fun coming up with the $$ for it... but yeah what really is going to set me off is if they send me home with the car and the tranny does go... if it hasnt already... they basically only have my business because the next acura dealer is much further away... these were the same people who told me my car idled rough and occasionally stalled because of my intake resonator being removed...... this is ridiculous though... nissan gave me much better service when i had my maxima with all of its problems
