update on the exhaust project

went to a couple garages today and quote for the job

and they quote me different prices

one recommened me to custom an extra pipe so it gets more flow and can keep the stock pipe....this would cost 250 in total

if i go with the cheaper option which just replace the mufflers i will need to cut them off, by which means when i want to swap back on i will have to do the same thing. this would cost 100 for 2 mufflers.

so which option should i go for? making an extra pipe for the new mufflers or just cut them and weld them up?

i don't understand when u say "make an extra pipe for the mufflers." So you'll have the stock exhaust pipe + another pipe? Jus have whoever replace the stock axleback piping with wider pipes.

Unless u just want the sound, jus cut em off and replace them. I don't think you'll want to go back to stock mufflers anyway. If the comptechs do get loud, jus get the quiet tip inserts

he does not recommend me to cut the pipe, instead he will take that out and make another custom pipe to fit with the new mufflers, but that would be around 250 installed.

i will have to put the stock back when i sell my car, but that would be 3-4 years later thou, so i dunno...

he says if i custom a Y pipe i can get more flow and hp, is that true?

lets say i bought the mufflers, and i have a Type S which people say i just need the axleback, would i have to do what your doing and cut and weld? or can i just bolt it on with a custom pipe and hangers? i hate to cut and weld like you are.. please let me know, thanks

no, i am not really into cat back setup

i just want to do the cut and weld but i want to see for more option, possibly giving up the project and just get another exhaust system instead.

i just want some noise but not as loud as a catback setup

i still researching for more options right now, will ask for more at the muffler shop tomorrow.

you should be able to have teh whole system (cat back) for less than 200 from a good shop. you are going to want a resonator 18" to 20" magnaflo makes them and you will want to buy one of their Y's.

the sound will be alot better with a custom axel back.
just because you go axel back doesnt mean its going to be "louder" you can custom tune the sound with a custom cat back by trying out which size resonator you choose

how did you think the mufflers were going to be mounted when you bought them? how did you plan on doing the setup when you bought them?
you can still take off your mufflers and have them install pipe and tell them you want to be able to put the oem ones back on.

go for it. you can always change the set up to a axel back down the road, the only down fall is not being able to buy the comptech quiet tip inserts. you need the comptech tips for the inserts to work

they are the infamous comptech mufflers that are selling on ebay right now

they are real mufflers and a few of us used that for their car, aka Tuna boy did a custom job with those mufflers and it looks great

the total job would costs half of the new comptech axleback setup

As Kris mentioned, you shouldn't be paying more than $200 for the install. Personally I wouldn't pay anything higher than $160.
