i just replaced a tail light which was out, and SINCE i did, the "brake lamp" light has been coming on...it didn't prior to replacing the light, even while it didn't work. i'm guessing it may have been because i might have tinkered with one of the lights as i was trying to determine which it was...any info on why else this might be would be good though.

 

Go back and jiggle the connectors. My wife's old '86 Legend did the same thing, turned out one of the contacts on the connector ended up bent under the bulb socket and wasnt always making contact. Removed the bulb and re-seating it seemed to fix it.

I had a similar problem with my 00 TL- go back to your light socket and make sure it snaps in with the connectors lined up- this should solve the problem. Hope this helps.

 

erdoc48 is right - it needs to snap in place - also you need to put back the same exact bulb you used in the first place meaning the serial numbers have to be the same in order for the light not to come on- I did a taillight conversion on my friends ride- we stuck the wrong lights in and the light came on - We then put them back into the right spots and it worked

 

Same thing happen to my 2000 TL about 2 yrs ago.
I went to replace the tail lamp that was out & replaced all the other stop & tail bulbs at the same time. After I did this the the indicator light came ON. I took the car to the dealer & they & fixed it. The invoice said secured bulb tightly into sockect.
