This baby is getting some rave reviews and is targeting the Acura TL S market.
I don't know what the 0-60 is but I suspect they'll have to get it under 7 to keep the sport minded buyer interested.
I hear the interior is really sharp.
Anyone else got info?

Beats me, but strictly by the numbers the current I30 should be a better performer than the 99-01 Tl's based on HP, torque and weight, but it isnt. So even with 260hp Id expect it to still be slower than a Type-S

Forget Infiniti (and Nissan). I saw the recent import sales figures and most are doing bang-up business and have sent records (Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, Mazda). Of all the major imports, only Nissan and Infinti sales were down. I was recently in Australia and what we call the Infiniti I30 is called the Nissan Maxima over there. There is no Acura there either - they are all Hondas. Funny thing tho, Lexus IS Lexus!!

Never fear my TL-S comrades...
I35 is sport tuned Maxima. It was matter of time before the nissan engineers caught upto Honda with their VQ series 3.0 V6. I also own '95 Maxima with the same engine but mine only puts out 190 hp. Maixmas are light, around 500 lbs less then TL. For me, I'm sick of driving Nissan so it was time for me to ride Honda (TL-S). I'd say both are great cars. I35 is still maxima just like TL-S is Accord, and ES300 is camry...

Dr. TLS
Wow. Sharp interior. I have a question about Nissan though. Somewhere, I read that they measure their horsepower differently than other auto makers, and it is usually a little inflated. Is this true? I hope someone can shed some light on this because I have always wondered about this. My family has owned several Nissans in the past, although the newest addition to our fleet is a 2002 Acura TL Type S.

Example, the solid metallic steering wheel logo on the Lexus is much more impressive than Acura's lame imitation, the wood touches are also spectacular whereas the wood in the Acura is cheesy! The plastics are also brighter and higher quality in the Lexus/BMW/Audi etc.

INFINITY is not as fast as the TL is mainly because it has less gear so acceleration is not as great ...the 2002 Maxima going to have 260 hps and maybe a 6 speeds SE-R then 2003 will become a larger car with rear wheel drive...it the I35 has 5 speeds auto.. i will smoke the TL-S but 2002 still only have 4 speeds..that engine is sweet..voted best engine for 7 yrs running and best V6 ever made by WARDS

Know what I am afraid of? The new Altima that is coming out late this fall with 250HP. Altima is a fairly light car (compare to TL-S) and with 250HP and a manual trans, that's a car we have to watch out for. I think I am going to have to mod my S before the Altima comes out.

Assuming they use some of the extra displacement to stroke the engine, I'd say they have a chance at better 0-60 times due to more torque. Still, the car just doesn't look sporty at all... not sure they will accomplish much with this thing. It will still get waxed by a BMW 330.
The things I found clearly better on the I30 were the interior, and lack of road noise.

You guys crack me up. When the maxima gets all these new special effects and gadgets, we'll talk. Until then, I'll continue to spank your I30 and Maxima in my TL-S.

It is undisputed that the interior of a BMW, Audi or Lexus is superior. My other vehicle is a '01 Lexus RX300 and the ambience is much more upscale in the Lexus. This fact is repeated like a broken record by everyone I've talked to.
BUT that does not mean that the Acura is bad - its nice... I'm not comparing it to the reeky interior of a Chevy Impala or Cadillac Escalade or other American makes!

Undisputed .. no, you should get your facts straight or spend more time in the archives. Many people have seriously debated the 330i vs. TL-S and ended up w/ the TL-S in part due to their "superior" interest in the TL-S interior. Your opinion is simply that, an opinion, and very subjective. We agree to disagree.

I heard the Maxima is going to be the size of the Toyota Avalon which they intend to compete against. This way, the new Altima will compete with the Accord and Camry.
I agree that even though the new I-35 have 260 hp, it will not beat a TL-S. If history dictates, the current I-30 have 227 hp compared to 225 hp for the TL. Guess what, the TL beats it in every performance category. So I don't believe there is any need to worry.

Sorry but the interior of the TL-S is light years ahead of the I30 and the 3 series BMW's. I'll never warm to the aprtan BMW inetriors, and the Infinitis have seriously cut costs in the interior materials. even the new Q's dash felt cheap in comparison

The interior of the I35 is the same as I30 except couple things. The new I35 has lighter color wood trim. And the center console in the I35 had wood trim, too. The instrument panel has a new layout and the rest of it is the same. Get this, Nissan said it will offer numerous options in the I35. I wonder when it said numerous, how many options are there?

One of the main reasons I bought the TL-S over the Infinity I30 was that Nissan had greatly cheapen their interiors. I know some think the TL-S interior is cheap, or lacking, but I think it is a nice compromise between a performance look and a functional interior; I don't need "natural burlwood" trim Hell, it ain't my living room!
If the "cheaper" Infinity/Nissan interior is still the case in the new Infinity I35 I would not hesitate to purchase another TL-S. I love the Nissan engine in the I30 and Maxima' SE but the rest of the car, both the Infinity I30 and Maxima SE, is sorely lacking. Someone titled one of the forum topics with a question as to whether the TL-S had Panache, that I can not answer, but I can state unequivocably that NEITHER the Infinity I30 nor the Maxima SE exhibit Panache; imho.
I personally, wouldn't give the new Infinity I35 a second thought. If history dictates, the new I35, with comparable equipement to the '02 TL-S, will be several thousands more on the sticker price. And don't forget that the Acura 3.2TL's retain a higher trade in value.

Middle-income America still gets nothing -- if you're in the 15% tax bracket -- nada, not even a thank you for trying post-card. Oh, and the working poor, .. nothing, and don't try to downplay this, it was estimated that this accounts for 34 million Americans. And another 17 mill. get less than your 6 months of TL-S gas fill-ups on account that their deductions and exemptions near the amount of the rebate. But hey, we drive TL-S's, we dont' need to worry about these people, they only mop our floors, cook our food, and turn the lowest, most important gears of our society.
As far as being single goes, we're already taxed higher for not being married in the first place -- the $300.00 is JUST the beginning, but apparently also the end in 2011. All in all, your Bush-wacks have catered once again to the rich-rich, and maybe even the semi-rich Americans that make up the smallest part of our population. Sorry for the OT discussion, but now I have to go ad some more pages of the Washington Post to the furnace.

tax revenue even though they make up a very small part of the population. How much was your taxes cut during the Clinton years?
"But hey, we drive TL-S's, we dont' need to worry about these people, they only mop our floors, cook our food, and turn the lowest, most important gears of our society."
The highest paying jobs in this country require the most education and that's the way it should be. Do you think a maid should get paid 100k a year? Anyway, the poor are not going to get rich by taxing the hell out of the upper class. In fact, I would argue it actually hurts them. You've falling victim to class warfare tactics the democrats use. Why penalize Americans for working their asses off and moving up the ladder with a higher tax rate? If someone makes 10 X more money than the next guy then what's so unfair if he pays 10 X more taxes?
Anyway, we are off topic here. I'm going to fill up my TL-S's tank with gas nearly $2.00 a gallon thanks to the lack of an energy policy during the Clinton administration. By the way much of the cost of gas is tax put on by the democrats. Of course, AL Gore himself in his books is quoted as saying we needed $2.00 a gallon gas. How do you think that is affecting the working poor?

Burning Brakes
I'm rootin' for SteveB! LOL! You guys better agree to disagree - 'cause this debate never ends! I'm a single, middle-income (70K), Republican and I'm always amazed how "fair" people who don't pay (as) much in income tax think the system is. I think the Prez is right, no one should pay more than a third of their salary in taxes! I'd go far as to say 25% is too high. And, unless I slept through my math classes, when tax brackets are reduced the folks getting reamed the most, er, I mean paying the most, will get the most back. This should not be a concept open to debate -- yet it is.
However, I think this latest "tax reduction" is too tame and spread over way too many years. I mean, what's stopping 'em from changing things two years or four years down the line?
And, oh yeah -- after Infiniti catches up to Acura in the HP department... I'm sure Acura will up the HP once again! To me it's kinda like worrying whether AMD will catch up to Intel -- eventually they will, but then Intel pulls ahead again. Just enjoy the ride!
My $.02

I think the Prez is right, no one should pay more than a third of their salary in taxes! I'd go far as to say 25% is too high. And, unless I slept through my math classes, when tax brackets are reduced the folks getting reamed the most, er, I mean paying the most, will get the most back. This should not be a concept open to debate -- yet it is.
However, I think this latest "tax reduction" is too tame and spread over way too many years. I mean, what's stopping 'em from changing things two years or four years down the line?

and turn the lowest, most important gears of our society.
Example, I know this chick who got pregnant at 15...cost the state a bunch to pay for her maternity care - who the heck pays for all that?? people who are in the upper income bracket like myself thats who! Now she hardly works but gets a bunch of credits and $3000 worth of EIC every year... that is free money that she goes and spends in bars! And you're whining about giving these people even more??? I paid $25,000 in taxes this year and you're complaining if my time has come to recieve a break!!! PLEASE!
The blaming of rich people has to stop, Bush has done the right thing buy giving everyone a break and taking a step to make the system closer to fair..

In fact, a family of fours tax burden will be reduced by several thousand a year. The middle class is getting a nice tax cut. The working poor does not pay any tax so how are they going to get anything back??? The rich will get the most back because they pay the most. Even after the tax cut, by far the rich will still pay a disproportionate amount of all
tax revenue even though they make up a very small part of the population.

No, I have my facts quite straight. Unfortunately you've been gobbled up by the right-wing conservative gobbledy-gook from Capital Hill -- do you really believe everything a politician says?
Everyone in the 15% tax bracket (the "working poor") will get no tax-cut in the marginal tax-bracket (this is the $27,050 for singles bracket, and $45,200 for couples). In the following three HIGHER tax brackets --- oh my .. check this out!! The rates DROP BY 3 PERCENTAGE POINTS over the next F-I-V-E YEARS. The very top of the totem pole:
The Rich,
Get a whole 4.6 percentage points!! Apparently the rich need to retain more of their money than us hard-working middle-income Americans who actually ***** about a $2.00/gallon fuel cost (you think rich people care whether gas is 2.00 or 6.00/gallon .. um, no). So if someone makes 10X more than one guy, he apparently isn't taxed 10x more .. but 10X less by your simple logic. I completely agree, why tax someone for working his way up the totem pole? Why only three points over five years?
If the working poor is hardly taxed because they hardly earn anything, why the hell do you tax them anyways, Stevie? Don't quite get that one ... but let's remember, the rich will get that 4.6 percentage reduction .. cuz THEY need to know they're working hard. 34 million people isn't enough to startle you .. well, that two-tiered society is on its way, the rich, and the poor. The working poor don't deserve any more than they earn in their respective jobs, so I don't quite understand the maid getting paid 100K a year -- but if they don't account for anything, why tax 'em at all.
Steve, I'm happy you've swallowed the Republican rhetoric, after all, it's only 1/3 of your paycheck. As far as the energy crisis .. was it under the George W. or the Clinton era that California began its rolling blackouts? Oh, happy motoring, and enjoy your TL-S.
