Post Type-S or Volvo S60 2.4T

I am torn between the Type-S and Volvo S60 2.4T. Did anyone else consider the 2.4T? If so, why did you choose the Type-S?

Thanks

I was looking at the Volvo S60 T5. That was a great car, good comfortable seats, heavy car.

But, when I added up all of the features, it was going to cost me $37K. But there are the things I noticed:

1) Strong torque steer on the Volvo
2) No HID option
3) Some of the plastics are cheap
4) Questionable reliablity compared to Acura.

I love my Type S and am happy I made that choice. Good luck!

You would have to compare to the T5 - the 2.4T is < 200 hp. Very small back seat too - but nice looking car - IMO.

Well price wise the 2.4T would be comparable to TLS.

However,
S60 2.4T should be compared to TL
S60T5 should be compared to TLS in terms of performance.

If I had a choice, I would trade in my TL and get the 2.4T or T5. I think the S60 is really nice car. It is somewhat a cross between the S80 and S70. Nice safety features, good looking like TL, not too sporty and also classy. They are like neck to neck. HOwever, Volvo plastic is cheaper than Honda stuff. Quality and reliabbility is as good as Honda except for maybe electronics. The leather in S60 would be better though. Both are awesome cars and I do love my TL.

I test drove the S60 2.4T and T5 and the V70 T5 wagon before getting my TL-S. Didn't like the Volvo automatic trans as well as the TL-S. The SS mode seemed to take forever to shift. The TL-S also seemed to be more open and have better vision to sides and rear.

When I started looking for a car, it was to replace a Volvo 850, and I figured I'd just try out other cars for a while and then get another Volvo, but the TL-S won me over.

I realize this is somewhat Off Topic but, IMHO the current generation Volvos are beautiful cars. Unfortunately, I have two friends that sold them before they were a year old because they fell apart.

I guess they aren't what they used to be.

Last month, my colleague thought about that for a week.
He ended up picking the 2001 TL over S60 2.4T
He should have just waited for TL-S. But again, he got a real nice lease deal.

Somewhat OT, but. . .

I had a tremendous number of problems with my volvo 850 -- stalling at 75MPH on the expressway, alternator problems, HVAC breaking, radiator, lights, etc.

The worst part was the dealer and the region did not stand behind the issues.

I'll never by another Volvo again.

Jenkins,

Thanks for the info. Which dealer did you purchase the Volvo from?

Volvo of Lisle -- The service manager (who I don't think is there anymore) was good in helping me at first, but the dealership as a whole wouldn't go to bat for me as I tried to pursue problem resolution with the regional/national guys at Volvo (and Ford). I even tried to buy a new car from them to get rid of my problem car and they wouldn't give me a good deal (compared to what other dealers were offering me)

If I recall, the last Volcos made in Germany were in 1998.

I was seriously looking at the S60 T5 before the TL-S came out. The Volvo, equipped the way I wanted approached $40k, the rear seat and trunk are too small and the NAV? Forget it. TL-S a MUCH better value and performance

I've been test driving a lot of cars recently. I'm 90% certain that I will purchase the TL-S w/nav.

I test drove the Volvo T60 T5. The car has good power with its turbo, but the braking and handling is a bit off. Also, the trunk space and rear seats were a bit too small for me. The dash/front panel is boring, but I did like the navigation system's location. You can actually look at the screen and keep your eyes on the road. You also do not lose space on the front panel. The seats in the S60 T5 cup the body more a la racing style.

Considering Satin Silver TL-S w/Nav '02.
