Type S or Not

I'm buying a TL in the next couple of days and I can't decide if I should get the Type S or not. Can anyone give me some suggestions why I should or shouldn't get the Type S.

I would get the Type S. I just like the fact that it has nice seats, the extra horsepower and a stiffer suspension. If you can shell out the extra $2000, and you want a little sport to your drive, I would get the Type S. If you want a more luxury feel, the TLP is appropriate.

The extra $2000 would only be around $40 more a month. Down the road if you wanted to get type S wheels that would be nearly $1000, half the cost of the upgrade to type S. If I were buying a brand new TL I would definately get the type S. You might want to hold off to get a look at the redesigned 2004 model.

There's always an assumption that the Type S model is somehow better than the standard model. IMHO, it depends on what the person wants. If the person wants something quick and sporty, then by all means get a Type S. But be warned, the suspension is stiff, the wheels are bigger which all contribute to a much harsher ride quality. That extra horsepower and Type S badge can also get you into trouble. Imagine all the people who would try to mess with you because you have the sport version. If your a person who enjoys a more luxurious drive and can do without all the stiffness, the TL-P is the way to go. You lose the nice looking 17" rims, sporty seats, and sporty feel, but you get a nice smooth ride that maybe perfect for long distance driving as opposed to the "almost sport" buckets we have in the Type S model. Don't get me wrong, I love my Type S, but there are times where I do enjoy my friend's TL-P. This I believe was Acura's original intent. That's why you can practically get the Type S and Premium models identical to each other minus the sport stuff.

I have a 2002 Type S and drove a 2003 TL-P yesterday (it was my loaner car since I was in getting my 15k mile service). Get the Type S...the ride is not that much different btw the two. Yes the Type S is a little firmer but you hardly notice it (maybe you will if you suffer from hemroids). The extra power is welcomed...I felt sluggish going from the "S" to the "P"...the pick up just wasn't there.

I got a P and don't miss not having the S. I am glad that I got the Navi though.

If you don't drive like Mario, just look at both cars. Look at the wheels, seats, dashboard. Decide which one you like better and there you go.

Also, if you are getting black interior decide which fake wood you like. P has brown, S has black (bowling ball).

Get the S, for the money you cant go wrong. If you are going to mod the TLP you might as well get a type S.
Exhaust 600.00
Headers 1100.00
Intake 225.00
total 1925.00
Labor???

And that will bring you to about type s power, not as linear though. Like i said for the money you cant go wrong. Ive ridden in both and all i can say about the ride is the only time i feel the difference is when i hit a big bump in my can and my friend hits one in his S. But i 90% of the time i avoid big bumps at all cost as should you all.

i got the sales man to sell me a TL-s for the price of a TL-p minus 300 bux so i thought why not!

I like the bigger wheels, and i like having the red type-s badge on my black tl-s, i like the firm seats, the type-s shift knob, and the white gauges, but the feel of more power is only more evident when you hit vtec, otherwise the type-s is only a bit better in the low end torque... during normal driving, the tl-s and tl-s are both very smooth, but when cornering, the tl-s springs load up to provide flat cornering, which isl also the case when you hit a bigger-than usual bump, the springs load up, then you feel the bump

go and drive both cars and see which one you like, i think that's the best solution and good luck!
