Type 4 Interval
A previous post by SC354 caught my attention concerning an upcoming type 4 inspection @ 48k. Didn't want to jack the thread...
Searching revealed that the number four is a VERY common word... Btw, thanks to SC354 for bringing the subject up.
I'm wondering what a type four service interval entails as it relates to warranty? I assume that it is just another money-grubbing dealer thing, but could bypassing it and doing the work somewhere else (or at the house) void warranty?
What are the intervals that have to be accomplished at the dealer (if any)? I'm asking because I'm at 21k on my '02. I took it in for the oil jet and service asked if I wanted to do my 21k yet. I said no and the guy started typing away on the computer all secretive-like... I'd rather not get ass-chomped over this if something major happens down the road.

I wouldn't worry about it. The truth is, I probably could do most of the servicing myself, but I lack in tools. I don't have that many, so working on the car is kinda hard. But luckily I have a good, reliable, honest mechanic other than the acura dealer, so that when the stealership tries to rip me off, I go to him and get a much more reasonable price.
dont even waste your money on any thing but oil changes till 100k except the tranny fluid changing. do that atleast every 50k. then do the recomended 90-105 k maintance. (ie.. timing belt, waterpump, plugs)

heh, maibe this is why you had so many tranny problems...i check tranny fluid every 2months myself and change whenever it seems burnt...
infact, i replaced the tranny fluid 2months ago because it was burnt after only 8000miles...but i really abused my car during those...lots of SS mode racing involved.
But yeah, on a TL, skip the 30k, do the 60k, skip 75k, change sparkplugs at 85kand then the 105k maintenance.
you'll save lots of time and money.

very wierd, still, tranny fluids should go like 30k mi and oil like 3k mi...maibe is the fact that acura's rebuilt trannies suck...i mean any person would expect 150k mi on the original tranny (not TLs owners obviously)...eitherway atleast you didnt spend any money, exept this last one you got right
its funny how you have over double my mileage on a newer TL!
