turbo and SC

Does anybody know the difference between turbo and super charger? I know they force more air into the engine, but I asked many people and they don't really know. Are there any turbo chargers for the TL now or soon?

Turbocharger- A supercharger powered by an exhaust-driven turbine. Turbochargers always use centrifugal-flow compressors, which operate efficiently at the high rotational speeds produced by the exhaust turbine.

Supercharger- An air compressor used to force more air into an engine than it can inhale on its own. The term is frequently applied only to mechanically driven compressors, but it actually encompasses all varieties of compressors-including turbochargers.

Probably, but to get one will run you at least two grand, then add another maybe 2 grand (and that's CHEAP) for labor..

Most people have this stupidity to overboost their turbos and they wind up overheating the engine so fast... bye bye engine.

If you're going that route, I'd say go turbo over supercharger, but make sure you get proper ventilation to the engine or it's going bye bye even at a low PSI.

IMHO, it's not worth it to Turbo a TL...the car is very heavy...to begin with and if you blow the engine...it's gonna cost you wayyy too much to replace it...

Still kool to have a daily driven turbo tl. But to have your TL as a race car is sorta pointless. Thing is way damn too heavy. Secondly our tranny can t even handle 400 hp. I can admit tho...

The sound of VTEC + TURBO is better than gettin road head
I'd rather hear that thing then my girl anyday!!!

i hate turbo...i had that in my last car and blew the thing. hot smelly smoke pouring out from the tailpipe. once the turbo goes, forget it, cant use the car until its fixed. i'd much rather go with a supercharger. plus, i hate waiting the min or 2 for the turbo to slow down before shutting the car off.

They idle the car until it's safe fort the turbo to stop spooling, then shut it off.

If my memory serves me

Actually it's to allow the oil from the turbo to continue to cycle. The oil gets very hot.......and it keeps it running to allow the oil to cycle and cool down. The turbo stops spinning when you let off the gas.

The oil in the turbo gets extremely hot due to the high rpm the turbo spins at. If you have been on the boost alot and all of sudden turn off the engine, the hot oil may cool too fast and coke in the turbo causing it to sieze in the future. A timer keeps the car running for another minute or so to keep the oil in the turbo from cooling too fast. Or, don't turn the car off immediately after being on high boost, just drive normal the last couple of minutes before you get someplace and you don't need to worry about it.
