trouble installing the neuspeed upper tie bar...

i did a search and everyone said that to unscrew the four bolts to install the tie bar, just use a wrench. well i did that this afternoon, but the bolts are really really tight.... when using all my "power" to unscrew the thing, i almost "flattern" the 6 point bolt, not to mention that the bolt doesnt move a bit.....

anyone can give some help to me? what's the best way to unscrew those bolts? what's the exact wrench you used? i were able to "flattern" part of the bolt so i don't think it has anything to do with my strength, but it's more about how to do it i guess

please help a fellow tler...

I'm not sure what the size of the socket is, but it should be around 10-14 mm. Make sure you use a 6 point socket. You could get a breaker bar, which is a like a rachet, but bigger. 16" to 24" inches. They usually connect to 1/2 sockets, but you could get an adapter for 1/2 --> 3/4. If you don't have the 1/2 sockets.

Remember the longer the bar(rachet) the more torque is applied.

Don't use a wrench.

You could rent an electric impact wrench from your local parts shop and do it that way if you want to save a trip to the shop...

I used a regular wrench with the proper head and it popped off just fine. Maybe temperature has something to do with it?

I also loosened the smaller nuts around it to help loosen the larger ones.

I know this is obvious...but I'm pretty much pulling everything I got here...are you sure you are turning counter-clockwise? :p Did you use WD-40? I just cant believe your car was built that tuff.

hehehe, i am very sure i was doing it couter clockwise, no doubt about that. wd40 is a good idea though, i might just as well try that. but that's definitely after my stupid finger heals...... let's just say it's a damn deep cut...

btw, what's the length of the wrench you used, edgalang? is it those kind where you attach differetn socket to it? or those direct wrench?

The problem is that your not generating enough tourque to start to crack the seal btween the nut and the car...You need an air wrench for sure...You are just gonna end up stripping all the nuts...trust me.

I was going to suggest jacking the front end up to help relieve tension, but after you said you destroyed a socket wrench jacking probably won't help.

In the end I went to a shop to get my bar installed. I didn't have any troubles getting the bolts off, but for the love of God I couldn't get the bar to fit.

It took two guys with crowbars and a third pulling with all his might to barely squeeze that bar on.

Even though pride in installing ur own mods is nice, sometimes you have to resort to outside help

SOAK THOSE LITTLE *****ES

Saturate them for a few hours with wd-40. If you think you sprayed too much, spray more. Of course if you've already stripped them, this is pointless.

Develop more turning power by extending the length of your wrench, perhaps by sliding the removable handle from a pneumatic jackstand over the ratchet handle.

what kind of wrench did ya use anyways? Like Bitium suggested, unless you are going to get an impact wrench, use a breaker bar it will help a lot! They sell them at Home Depot, Sears, etc... and with life time warranty too!

Dude...use my wrench trick that I have on the my site in my sig...two wrenches together...make a longer lever arm...worked for me for this and the exhaust. Or go get a pipe and stick it over the wrench. It's easy.
