Transmission Slips intermittently

Hello everyone, I am new to this site but been on here since I bought a 99 Acura TL. My transmission slips periodically. Sometimes when I drive when it is really hot outside or have been driving for a while; my transmission slips while shifting from 1st to 2nd, but when I cut the car off for a while its drives brand great. This happens once every few weeks. I have one code indicating it was the transmission range switch, but that code has not been on since. I had the tranny fluid drained and refilled but the this problem happens every once and a while. I figure this can probably be a electrical problem rather than an mechanically because it should every time slip when I attempt to drive. I know these types of cars have bad trannys. I took it to Accurate Automotive and they could not find anything wrong with the tranny. The cars throws no type of transmission codes. The Car has about 186,000mi, but I figured that the transmission had to be replace or rebuilt along the way since I bought it 7 months ago. Please help me out if you can.

Your trans is basically on its last legs.. Slips means that the clutch packs are worn out and they have to be replaced.

That thing about being cold works right but gets warm and it slips its a clear sign that the ATF doing its work but the trans physically its unable to hold gear.

Sorry to tell you this :/

I know you've had the fluid changed, but you should take a peek under the hood and give the fluid an inspection. It should be a nice red color and not have any burnt smells. I'm not entirely sure if the 4 speeds from '99 were included by the campaign from Honda to install a oil jet kit, but you should see if it has one.

I know that the Odysseys from that era are natorious for having the clutches in 2nd gear burn out.

How bad are the flare ups? Do they seem to be getting worse?

^ 4 Speedos are not notoriously known for being defective.. They work great but if they are neglected of maintenance they will die like most AUTO trans.. The 5 Speedo is the black apple here.

Transmission is our TL is slipping as well. I plan on attempting to clean the solenoid and tranny fluid change, but at the same time, I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get a 06-07 AV6 and call it a day

You should. Once your solenoid is being blocked by gunk and clutch material, the damage is already done. By draining the fluid and cleaning the solenoids, you're only wasting your time and money.

Funny thing is about 2 months ago, I took it to a transmission shop for a check out and during the test drive, the thing shifted flawlessly

But, I'll inspect the solenoid and see. I'm in the process of changing the engine/trans mounts (only have the rear and 2 trans mounts left) and will check the solenoid. If its blocked, I'll clean it for the time being and start looking for a AV6 tranny.
