transmission please help
i have a 99 tl with 84,000 mile when my car is cold and i put in reverse it kick is that normal or i i just paranoid that my warranty will be up at 100,00k after its warn up its does not do it any more even if i let my car warm up then put it in reverse for the first time it will do it??????????
It is normal. One thing to try that helps relieve some of that bump. When you park the car for the night, put it in neutral first, engage the E-brake, let the car settle, then put it in park to shut it off. This takes a lot of the stress off of the tranny for engaging the car to keep it stationary.
Hope this helps,

Did you check the RPM upon cold start before you popped it in reverse?
Sometimes before it's fully warmed up (the engine), the RPM would be at about 1,000-1,500 RPM. If you put it in Reverse at this RPM, then it's technically a neutral drop and it's natural to feel a jerk or a kick. Mine does the same thing.
By the way, you guys even use the term "cold start" down in Texas? :P You don't know cold unless you get up in the morning and your car has been sitting in 10-degree weather overnight.
Now THAT's a cold start, my friend.
