Transmission fluid
So I went in for a tune up and figured out that my transmission fluid is craptacular. It is a dark brown color, and the mechanic said only about 1/3rd of it drained... the rest is stuck. He said I'd have to get it changed every oil change until the fluid loosens up and turns red, and then I can get it changed every 15,000 miles. Other places uses a pump that circulates the fluid and pumps it back in, which usually costs 150; so this way works better I guess. Does this sound reasonable?
Also is it worth doing the tranny fluid/oil change myself?
The mechanic charged me 15 bucks for the oil filter/oil and 18 for the tranny fluid. Service was only 7 for each, coming out to a little less than 14 for labor for both. Doesn't seem that much, but I guess it adds up since its every 3k miles.
For DIY, where do you brand/cost are the filter/oil/tranny fluid that you guys have?
Also where do you dispose of the oil/tranny fluid?
Being third owner sucks cuz you don't know what happened to your car, but I guess I should have gotten a tune up as soon as I got the car. Also for you diyer's, brake pads are definetly worth it to get... It cost 30 bucks for the labor on two pads, and it seemed so simple.

Start here, do a search. It's all been covered before. I take my used fluid to AutoZone,Advanced Auto or any other store that will accept it for free. 5 gallon limit per visit. If your tranny fluid was dark, just change it a few times=recommended 3 times. Search and read the other posts here.

Yepper-the dealer. Bout 5 to 7 Bucks a qt. Roughly $15-21 bucks per change.plus the washer. Just call the an Acura Dealership and ask what they charge for a Trans. fluid change. You'll save a lot by doing it yourself. Search for the procedure on changing it. I ripped my knuckles using a breaker bar to loosen the upper fill bolt. Be careful, it's on there tight. Hey, the dealership even threw in the washer on my last visit for free. By the way, I went to the Honda parts counter. Figured the Z1 Tranny fluid would be cheaper there. They probabaly would have stiffed me for more $$$$ at the Acura parts counter.
