Transmission failure caused an accident
heh, you guys completely tore apart this kid...he's probably not posting around here no more under that same name...Not only did he spent a 1200 in an exhast, but he wrecked the car a week after that...Insurance might pay for the car, NOT the dealership, but it'll be VERY EXPENSIVE.
Broly dud, you weren't carefull enough...its hard NOT to see an accident infront of you. By what you say, it wasnt your tranny NOR your breaks, it was the short distance AND your lack of driving experience.
BTW- i got no hard feelings towards you, i'm not saying im experienced or anything but you should be more aware of whats going on around you...Drive in NY for a week and then go back to edmonton and you'll never have an accident in your life! (i learned to drive in venezuela...its 10xworse than NY)

and a half.....it IS over.......acura's lawyers [that are reading this] don't deserve this much humor......shit happens, as long as you're okay, that's the most important thing...get a few MBs, you'll forget all about the acura.

So if it didn't engage, it doesn't mean the car didn't do its job. Kindof like how people complain that they got into an accident and the airbag didn't deply ... Airbags (the one in the steering wheel) are only meant to deploy in a frontal collision ... and the impact itself is an issue as well. The airbag won't go off if you hit someone from behind at 2mph.. Anyways, ABS only engages if it detects wheel lockup .. That is, the wheels aren't spinning but the car is still moving. If the wheels didn't lockup, then ABS would not have engaged. For ABS to work properly, you also have to stomp on the brake ... If you didn't apply enough braking pressure, then ABS won't do anything.
In any case, most of the transmission problems I've heard of caused a sudden and quick stop. You're claiming the transmission failure caused your car to not stop ... Which doesn't make any sense. If the transmission failed, your car would have either stopped sooner than normal, or at the same rate as normal. If there's anything to blame on Acura, its that the brakes they've provided in the car are inadequate for emergency stops like this ... I doubt you'll be able to sue them or get anything out of them because of it though since the brakes probably meet NHSTA requirements.
Don't get me wrong here ... I'm not an Acura fanboy or someone who's going to defend Acura if they're in the wrong. If the transmission failed while you were on the highway and you had the sudden downshift from 5 -> 2 causing your car to come to quick stop ... which in turn caused another car to rear end you .. Then I'd be fully supportive of you suing Acura for damages due to the tranny problem. However, your story does not present any evidence that the tranny failure caused you to get into an accident in anyway shape or form. The "clunking" noise you heard earlier does not mean the tranny failed during the accident ... and like I said, even if it did, you would not have lost braking power because of it.

that was what i was going to say too... how the heck does ABS have any connections with the transmission (one controls the lock-up of brakes and ladder controls shifting of gears).this is my personal opinion, but i think you need to stop blaming acura for the cause of your accident. the accident was caused by the insecure mattress, your lack of experience (any youngster do, including myself), and/or the fact that you were following too close.
im glad you are okay. live and learn.
i've been in a accident myself on the freeway. it wasnt a pretty sight and there were tons of paperwork, phone calls, and other crap to be taken care of. although i was relecutant to drive for the next couple of months, eventually i was about to snap out of it and continue to drive.
it might be cruel what some of these guys here have said to you and about your incident... but the fact of the matter is that this is reality. shit happens all the time and complaining doesnt change things back.
Ok Ok.... This thread is filled with the same repeated material over and over. "ABS has nothing to do with tranny...." "It wasn't your tranny's fault...." etc..
I think it would be kind of hard to "suck it up" right after you just wrecked your precious car. Since no one here actually knows what happened in the accident then it is just as much BS to post replies drawing conclusions about who's fault it was and whether the transmission was really at fault.

(relax, it is a joke)You have to remember that a car is not 'a' machine, it is a bunch of machines that work independently and engineered to work in unison.... The trans has nothing to do with the ABS, i think your mistaking the cluthc with braking.... In an automati car the clutch is just that, automatic. The clutch is engaged and disengaged automatically.... so when you hit the gas the clutch is engaged, and when yo hit the brake the clutch disengages.... this activity has nothing to do with the braking of the vehichle... before someone ht me up for being wrong, my description above is simple and I know that.....
Broly, you need to relax and just chill... when you get some time go and get a book on how cars work. They are not hard to undersand what is going on.... I hope everything works out for ya.... Peace...
