transmission died for the 3rd time

at over 100k miles. They wouldn't replace it anymore.
It looks like I'm going to have to trade it in for a new Acura, since they don't really care what condition that transmission is in.
Any other ideas?

You'll probably get next to nothing in trade-in value with a failed transmission.

You might be better off replacing the transmission and then selling the car. But plan on $3,000 to $4,000 for the replacement.

What year is your TL and how many miles are on it? If your TL is just over 100,000 miles you might still be able to get Acura to replace it. Other forum members have reported this. If I recall correctly, one person mentioned coverage at 107,000 miles recently.

I took it to the dealer and sure enough, it worked perfectly when I got there.
So after taking it out for a spin, they wouldn't even look at it further without an appointment.
The check engine light is still on...but the other 2 lights are no longer on.
They told me it wouldn't affect the trade in....I guess that only applies if I pick up a new car there.
What's weird is that it actually works fine now. The last 2 times, it just died.

I have 75k on mine and while my tranny hasn't died yet, sometimes it shifts funny...in a minor way. It doesn't have very harsh shifts but they are harder than normal after the car warms up. At times when between gears in town its almost like driving a manual and shifting to a higher gear at a speed too low and letting out on the clutch....a small bucking sensation...very minor though. It has only "slipped" on me a few times when I pulled out onto the road and accelerated hard....so it's not gone yet, but I'm wondering if it's on its way. I may take it to the dealer in a couple of months since I still have friends/connections there and see if they'll just replace it anyway. I'm not going to worry too much about it...though the flushing of the tranny does it no good its bonus pts. if it goes out after warranty....dealer receipts proving I flushed it every 24k or so and they'll be more likely to replace it under a goodwill. Acura has done it up to around 160k on some of the TLs. Your dealer has to be the one to go to bat for you though and many won't.

Tell us, When was the 3rd tranny installed? Was it Post Feb05 with the
latest changes? It might be an early failure if it was...

The 3rd one was installed after "the fix", so don't pin your hope on any fix.

That's probably what happens. The car currenlty works fine. I'm not about to trick or lie to anyone. I'm not a used car salesman. I'm not a sales, period.
They know about it and they don't care. The bottom line is that they get free replacement tranny anyway, they might as well do me a favor and keep me as a customer. I have a lot more cars to buy from Acura

I'm pretty noob, but seems like you should call Acura or something. Especially with this being the 3rd tranny to die. Maybe you can get a deal like some say, pay for labor or something. You could try another dealer. Do you have all the paperwork from the previous transmissions?

I would trade it into the dealer.

I'm trading it in for a 06 TL 6MT w/ NAV. They gave me a deal I can't refuse.
I was gonna wait for 07 TL-S, but I'm not about to drive around with this tranny for another month.

Thank you all for all the good advice and for keeping me company

Pig how many miles did you put on this tranny before it failed on you? I was really hoping the fix would last for at least a little while .

My tranny was replaced at 40k 70k and now 110k.
The "fix" is not really a fix to the problem as Acura put it. It's just there to "help" or slow down the wear and tear. So it's still go eventually. Apparently, with my driving, it doesn't make a difference.

The date is VERY important. That would make a huge difference. The tranny was completely redone by ACURA in Feb 05. Anyone that had a replacement tranny installed after Feb 05 got a new redesigned tranny. If your tranny was replaced after February 2005 and failed you would be the first known failure with the new tranny on here.

The "fix" was the oil jet kit which is what I think you are talking about. That fixed nothing.

Sorry, thanks for the correction.

That's kind of what I meant by that statement. I just meant overall the "fix" hasn't helped us with the problem that made most of our trannies fail.

Anyway, I hope he gets back to us about the date his last tranny was replaced.

I'm not sure how I can find out when it was replaced.
I drove it over to the dealership and dump the car there.
I went back to pick up the new TL tonight.
Sure enough, it took less than 5 minutes to find a problem
The seal on the moonroof is only half installed. The other half is left dangling down.
With the gap in the front side of the roof, it was making a lot of noise.
It's just my luck

I'll see if I can find a way to find the date. I apologize in advance if I can't find it.

What exactly was done to this "new-redesigned tranny", to make it more reliable? new clutch packs? unless, they changed the design or something these clutch packs are eventually going to burn. I just got a re-manufactured tranny a few days ago. Its performing like a champ. I put a tranny cooler on there, and I would like to know realistically, how long it can pontentially last?
