Smile Transmission Club

Just recently, I started noticing abrupt downshifting and stalled RPMs while driving. Classic "transmission may be starting to go," symptoms. I decided to take it to the nearest dealer, Hinshaw's Acura in Fife (Washington). I told about the symptoms and was told a diagnostic would be needed ($109.00).

I waited a bit and the service manager came back, "I didn't even need to get the vehicle out of the lot to notice you need a new transmission. Your VIN is covered and we will be providing a rental in a few minutes."

Since I didn't buy my 02 TL-S from the dealer, they would not put me into a customer loaner. However, they paid for my rental in full.

Finally, the transmission was ordered the next day (on a Thursday) and I had it installed and ready for pick-up the following Monday morning. They even waived the diagnostic charge since it was clearly evident to them what was going on.

Just thought I'd share a "good" dealership experience, for once. Thank you to Hinshaw's Acura in Fife (Washington) for a seamless customer experience.

Diagnostic fee is a legal issue- a work order allows them to inspect and drive your car- without one- they are car strippers!
Warranty always picks up the diagnosis fee- its part of the warranty coverage.
Loaner cars are not based on where you bought the car. The dealer isnt even required to get you any car, but does out of customer service.
The in house loaners go to 1-2 day service jobs first, get the basic customer out of the place and doing their life like normal.
When they run out of those they call enterprise and get a car for you.

Service WRITERS-Advisors, can only quote policy per the book - while SERVICE MANAGER can send a tech out to look at the car, go for a ride,- get warranty coverage out of VIN, pretty much-- well- they are the Manager

Write a thank you letter to the General Manager of the dealer and to Acura-
bonus points/pay get handed out based on survey results and feedback.

the warranty is to 109, so spotting you 400 is reasonable
If anyone just over that has a problem- remind them the court says our odometers read 5% fast- so 109k actual miles ~as ordered by the court~ is 114.5 indicated miles

Another good dealership

ANother good dealership which is in Bayshore NY.

I took my 03, 31000miles TL to the dealership in Bayhore last week.

1. The light on the clock was out
2. There is a slight hestation in the tranny when going from any gear to 1st OR if the car downshifts in gear in traffic.

Long story short.

THey replaced the light (even though it wasnt covered), they said the tranny is normal (we'll see about that), and they also replaced the back brakes b/c they were low ( and I never mentioned them)

Hmmmmm, I thought the warranty was 7 years 100k. Why did they give us the extra 9k miles? I'm not complaining but it's a weird milege for the warranty.

The car was on its original transmission at 84,500 miles. They said the replacement continues under the 7 yr/109k coverage.

it was 100K but the court then order an extra 9k miles and added 9 months to the 7 years- who knows why!
Its NOT because of the odometer- 5% is 5000 miles at 100k- dont let a service writer try to bs you~

The 1 second delay from N to d5 is normal- if it gets longer than that- its a problem, but electronic trans and all....
In stop and got traffic- use D4 not D5, it will keep it out of overdrive and help with sone of that in traffic shifting stuff

Yeah I acutally took my car in today to have them check on the transmission and they told me they would give me a transmission free of charge due to the low milage of the car so everything worked out perfectly.
