Transmission

Hi this is my first post here. Those of you who changed their transmission after 2005, do you still have problems? wikipedia says that honda fixed the transmission made after 3/2005.

from wiki

"Transmissions replaced prior to March 2005 usually fail again. Transmissions replaced 3/2005 and later include a redesigned third gear clutch pack reported to fix the problem."

yes that seems to be the consensus. As long as its the dealer rebuilt trans they have been holding up since then.

Not long now young friend- not long at all,

pay attention to the things it does and get to the dealer
Even if they cant duplicate it now- it will give you warranty coverage after limits

Can we ask Acura to use a brandnew tranny from 2007 TL (instead of a rebuilt one) to replace a failed one for 2nd generation TL ???

They are not interchangeable.

a new one from an 07
Now THATS funny-
I dont care who you are!!!

The replacements from Acura now are mostly new parts and certain reused hard parts/gears that are still in spec. The CASE that holds it all together- and is the main subject of design changes in the oil passageways- is NEW.
What exactly do you want for FREE anyway.
How many other makers come thru like Acura has for its customers?
Sure, most aziners had a failure, this being a gathering place for tech help-
but ask a TL owner in a parking lot and they have no problems.

Bring it in to your Acura dealer ASAP to document the problem.

Do as Bob says He is the trans guy in these parts of azine

the replacements carry their own warranty of 12month 10k miles in addition to the factory 109

Make a CALL to the Service MANAGER- get it in right away
Take a nice box of donuts with you "for the guys"

Mine felt funny, I went in- they sent the head Tech for a drive with me, he couldnt feel what I did, but Service Manager knows me now and the prob is getting more noticable-
so in she goes for replacement.
For some reason they like test driving my car. GPS fix required trip around the block after caliper and brake upgrades, now I have Teins....
And I asked last time- no worries about Teins or basic mods to the car, they know some of the replacement units fail too and have a no-hassle policy towards their customers.

Thanks but I think you and fsttyms1 (and a pile of others) know a lot more about the transmissions and warranty coverage than I do. But it did make me laugh.

My original trans died at 67K miles, second tranny died at 97K (replaced on 9/06) .. now I am on the 3rd one & my car now is 120K. All warranty is over, don't know how long it will last, just do all maintenance plus change trans oil every 10K to make me feel comfortable, I assumed??!!

Don't totally give up on warranty coverage. Acura has provided goodwill transmission coverage to a number of "out-of-warranty" TLs. Some of the cars have been well out of warranty. See the Tranny Failure thread.

Bottom line: It won't hurt to ask and it could save you a significant portion or even all of the costs of a replacement.

Not so much,

Had my 3rd installed Apr 2007 and my 4th 2 weeks ago, lasted 7500 miles.

From personal experience, i can tell you that is not the case.

Anyways, that is just my experience.

a few members here had repetative failure-
of the many that had replacements- thats not bad

It does seem that some people are the Quality Control for Life
and if there is a messed up product - they get it

I talked to my independent transmission guy, and as far as he knows, there are no aftermarket updates available to correct the clutch wear issue. The rebuild kits haven't changed.

If there was truly a fix for the problem, the aftermarket would've found it already, as they often do with the domestic units.
