transmission
transmission
I just bought a 2000 tl with 48,000 miles, at slow speeds it seems like there is some slop in the transmission, I am new to acura, but I test drove onother tl with 36,000 mi and it seemed to do the same thing, would you recommend taking it right in for a new tranny? or waiting until it actually goes? also... is the replacement tranny improved to fix the problem???
thanks!

The refurb tranny has a redisigned 3rd gear clutch pack. You wont notice any performance difference its just that the old design disintegrates inside the tranny spewing pieces all over when it goes. The first sign of a failure is slipping, usually between 2nd and 3rd gears. Watch your tach when the car shifts. If the tranny is going, you will see the tach climb a few hundred rpm for a brief moment before it goes into 3rd. You wont have much warning after that so be careful. Mine went 2 days after i observed that. When it goes the car jumps from whatever gear you are in, into 2nd gear. This has been "observed" by quite a few poeple on this site and let me tell you its no fun driving along at 75 MPH when it happens. It feels like being rearended plus its real dangerous especially if you are not expecting it. Fortunately i had read about this from fellow member copland007 so when it happend i knew what was going on and i was able to shift the car back up into 3rd are a few tries in SS mode.
The best wasw coming to a rolling stop on a hill, my car went to downshift into secon then first, but go stuck in neutral. When i went to hit the gas as the light turned green the freakin car wouldnt go, i almost hit a car behind me. Then al of a sudden the car went into gear at like 4000 rpm(my first neutral drop?). Ripped the tires and bolted outta there.
