Tranny slow to go into D

Is it normal to have the transmission take 3-5 sec. to go into drive. It has been like this since day one. I bought @ 92K miles(has 103k on it now). shifts fine and goes into reverse normally. Would a bad motor mount cause a delay?

Thanks

I would suggest to drain and refill your tranny fluid and see how it behaves. If it was the engine mount, you would feel the car jerking rather then slow engaging to D.

I have done two drain and fills, and it does seem to jerk a little after the 3-5 sec time lag. Is there any sure way to tell if it is dead?

I notice a 2+ second delay. Both on the original and the replaced tranny.
So it's a design issue and is normal. 5 seconds does sound like the longest I
have heard of though.

Slow to engage is a normal thing. No no real way to tell if its dead unless its throwing a code or not shifting properly while moving. If you think its abnormal or something isnt right bring it in before your too far past warranty.

Yes. When the tach hits 6,000 and the car does not proceed forward while in "D" the transmission is dead. I've never had an Acura do that, but my Jeep Grand Cherokee did it three times.

3-5 seconds seems like an abnormally long engagement time (we are talking about transmissions, not marriages here). I'd take it in now and see what they say. Mine didn't fail, but they said it was on its way out and replaced it anyway.

BTW he never said the transmission was slipping, he just said it was slow to engage Drive.

From 1 to 3 second delay is normal ... if more then that I suggest to verify
your A/T fluid level ( since you're already change your fluid ) and make sure
the level is in between the minimum and maximum mark ....My dealer overfill
the fluid once and my 02 tl-p shilft very slow and lazzy !!!!!
Level the fluid to half full then you will see the different .
Good luck

A full 5 seconds to engage D is not normal. I agree that sajigore should have it checked out before he gets too far out of warranty.

The causes for this delay could be numerous (especially with a Honda/Acura). We had a '98 Accord in that had a clunk when downshifting (coming to a stop). The cause ended up being an O-ring on one of the clutch packs that was leaking and allowing line pressure to drop too much.
