Tranny is slipping like it ran over a banana...

Looks like my tranny's time has come. It's the original without an oil jet. It has sometimes hiccupped and burped randomly but up until about a week ago the 2-3 shift is slipping noticably. My '03 is at 48K and the VIN falls outside the tranny extended warranty. If the tranny is on its last legs, I guess I should be lucky since I'm still within the 4 year/50K factory warranty.

I'll be bringing it in later on this week since the local Acura is out of loaners right now. I'll also get the front rotors resurfaced since they make-a my steering wheel shake-a. And my door sills and black vinyl window trim are being replaced too. All that should be fixed under warranty. I'll get them to change the brake fluid while they have it.

I was kind of hoping I would never have to replace the tranny, but better now than possibly later after warranty expiration. I really don't like to bring my car in anywhere either, but here's hoping everything goes well.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Good luck If the service advisor is playing hardball, you could always go through Acura Customer Care and hopefully they'll help you out. But I think you'll be ok since you're still under your factory warranty.

Why not just get new Rotora rotors and have them replace them?

I had my brakes and rotors replaced for free by my service advisor. He said that there is a known problem with the rotors warping and so they replaced everything.

It's under warranty, so I don't have to shell out any money.

So they replaced the rotors AND calipers? Did it solve the problem for good?

Sorry, I should have clarified. They replaced the rotors and brake pads all the way around and I haven't had any warping problems since.

Update

So I brought her in yesterday and let a technician drive it. We took it around the block and he confirmed a failing tranny immediately. He also noticed the front motor mount is broken, which I never knew.

Now here's the list of stuff being covered under warranty:
  • Transaxle
  • Front motor mount
  • Brake resurfacing
  • Door sash and window trim
The tech will handle the brake rotor problem by resurfacing and not replacing them. I just hope the problem doesn't come back.

I found this funny. On Friday, I washed the car and when I pulled up to the service department, my fairly stock TL-S attracted quite a bit of attention. Two of the service guys came out and was amazed at the paint job, so they ask me the color and I told them OEM ABP. They couldn't believe it, and never knew this blue was a factory option.

I'll be getting a loaner TSX. I wish they had an MDX or 3rd gen TL, I'd like to drive those.

resurfacing it wont make it go away for good. It will probably come back quicker though

8/14 Update

Got the car back last Thursday. Tranny shifted smooth, new front motor mount made a world of difference, and a fuel induction cleaning brought back the great acceleration.

But come Saturday, I'm idling at a light in D5. When I release the brake to idle forward, I go nowhere. Revved it up and it feels like I'm in N. Shifted to P and then back to D5 to get going again.

Now it's back at Acura getting another tranny (possibly, unless it's some electronic gremlin) Anybody have any similar issues with the new (post '05) remans?

Maybe. Hopefully it's not too bad. And if another one has to go in, hopefully the third time's the charm.

Must be that time of year, my trans is acting funky every now and then. Had it replaced the 1st time at 37k miles, now it's at 80k, so I expect in the next 5-10k miles it will die. I did just pick up new rotora rotors and H2 ceramic pads. If Excelerate can get them to me by this weekend, I'll be putting them on then!!
