Tranny Slipping...

I know this is all over this forum and everyone will say "SEARCH', but this is an extenuating circumstance... I have an '03 TL-S with VIN 19U...A031708 and 44k, so its technically not covered. What sort of recourse do I have with this? I bought it with 38k on it 5 months ago and find it ridiculous if I have to pay anything for this tranny to be replaced. I live in Lynchburg, VA (2hrs west of Richmond, 2hrs north of Greensboro, NC) what dealer should I go to that I have the highest possibility of getting a free tranny?

Also, I know these things are unpredictable but what kind of life can I expect before it totally dies on me? Right now it seems to start slipping in 3rd gear, I feel something then it kind of feels like its in neutral but when I rev it up there is a little pull but not near like its in gear. Should I be worried about going to lunch or making a 2 hour trip to a dealer? Or am I OK for a little while?

Thanks for all your help guys!

First of all why isn't it covered? Is it a salavage title? You have 44K, and its a 03, you are most def covered under thier warranty plan dude. Get your car registered under Acura and see the history behind the car. If you car is salavage, then I dont know they might go half with you ( parts or labor ). Other than that, you should be covered. The dealer will take about a week to repair however they will provide a loaner if available.

It should be covered under 5yrs/50k. Bring it in as soon as you can so they can record your problem for future reference.

I don't know why I figured its not covered. So basically it isn't covered in the extended warranty, right?

You should be fine considering you still have 6K left on the factory warranty.

I'm in the same boat as well having an 03 that is outside of VIN range.

I wouldn't worry about being an "out of range" VIN 03 too much even after 50K miles. I had 2 trannies replaced free of charge and my "VIN was out of range". Just be nice to the dealer and Acura Client Services and you should be all set.

UPDATE!!!:

I have scheduled an appointment with the dealership this Sat to drop it off... So I just got back from lunch and twice on the way back (its only like 3 mile drive pretty flat) the tranny tried to down shift on me suddenly then popped back into gear... It was so sudden that I heard a tire squeal... I assume this car is becoming unsafe to drive but how unsafe? I have a 2 hour drive to the dealership, if I put it in manual mode in "5" will it stay there or attempt to down shift again? Please give me advice on what to do, thanks!

If it runs true to form :
You will be casually cruising at 55-70 when it suddenly decides 2nd would be a nice gear to use.
Exciting for you!
Thrilling for the tailgater~
Call Acura roadside asistance and ask them to send the flatbed tow
Talk to the Service MANAGER today- and be certain to have loaner available on saturday- most of them are scooped up for the weekend by beater cars in for service and your car will be down for a week

i would call them up and explain what happened, and that the car is unsafe to continue driving. If you have to drive it there, try not to let it do much shifting. SS wont keep it in gear. The key is to keep the trans from doing a whole lot, thats what causes heat and it to loose ability to keep it in gear.

Since he is under regular warranty- not one of us 109k beggers-,
they should be more than happy to send the tow truck since it gets paid for by Acura Corp- just like the trans does- none of this is money OUT of the dealers pocket

When you call- tell the SERVICE MANAGER- NOT the service WRITER
how freaked out your wife got when it happened and with 2 kids in it~~
Can they please help you out- Its a saturday- tow trucks are not busy and they arent really
going to look at your car until Monday anyway...rid ewith the tow and pick up the loaner

Use the Roadside Assistance by plan not need

Thanks for the help, right about the time you posted this I was riding in the tow truck (flat bed) two hours to drop it off at the dealership. Good thing my parents live there b/c they were out of loaners and I had to stay there last night and the service manager got me a rental this morning (Fuckin Ford Five Hundred, POS!). But anyways, they have my car and I have a rental, all is good here. Thanks for all your help and I will have my car back next week hopefully, I want it back now! I hate that Ford.

You shouldn't have a problem with the vin rang my tranny took a dump last year and mine was out of range but since Acura has been having so many problems with the transmissions in the 2g TL they fixed and gave a sweet rental for free while they fixed it.

NEW UPDATE!

My car is done and I had them look at a noise I had coming from the front end that I thought was ball joints... Well the service manger said there were some bolts loose that attach the sub frame to the uni-body!?!?!? My car has not been in an accident so I don't know how this could be true. I will see if its fixed tonight when I pick it up. Is this complete BS or is this a viable issue with this car? Thanks

The roads in America take a toll on the cars
Another reason to get under your car with a socket set and check everything

On the race car- each week we tighted stuff that came loose, so years on the roads will do the same thing
