There have been several tranny failures for 03s reported on this board. It seems the tranny problem for the TLS was not fixed until recently so there are some 03s with the "bad" trannies.

So, does it mean that if I get a tranny replaced, I will not have any more problems? My car is getting a new tranny as we speak, so will it be an "updated" one? And which problems and how got fixed anyway, if anyone has any info?

Thanks.

From other reliable sources on this board, the problem has been fixed. So if yours is currently in the shop for a new tranny, you should be good to go. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

If you would, please query them on the updated "PCM" that has been reported to be the fix for the problem. I would love to know what they say about it.

It would be nice in WayneG or Jens would chime in about this problem, it's origin and it's solution. I know they are in a tough spot, but if they could just verify that the PCM is indeed the problem and we don't have to worry anymore, that would be great!

many "replaced" trannies failed as well, because they're actually "remanufactured", not "replaced" with a new unit

anyways, don't worry, if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen, if it's not, it wont, you never know, so just don't think about it and enjoy
good luck

Are there any early warning signs or symptoms (i.e. lagging or hard shifts, slow throttle response, noises) we can look for or does the tranny just quit?

I believe Honda still has no fix on failed transmissions. So it doesn't matter whether the replacements are remanufactured or new units. They may still fail. Just take a look at '03 cars, they all come with new units, and some still reporting transmission failures.

Ok..I am sooo ready to buy an '03 TLS...but all this tranny problem is making me turn away from Acura. You all say, don't worry and it will get replaced...what!? What about 4 years down the road when the warranty expires? What are you gonna do? And also, I don't wanna have to keep bringing the car to the dealer to get it fixed!...shoot..even my 3 year old Mustang GT hasn't had one single problem and I beat on it all the time...
I thought Acura was supposed to be refined and flawless...
C'mon people, convince me to get one cause I like it that much...except for this tranny issue.
Thanks!

im not here to convince anyone to buy this car.......you should just read what people have to say and draw your own conclusions and do what your comfortable with ive had my car for almost a year now and no problems so far and im not one to baby a car i drive regular and i hitt the vtec range quite often. As far as what happens after the warranty......well why dont you just lease the vehicle and if you like it after you can buy it and it works out to almost the same money as if you bought n financed it.

If the problem is fixed you still might have cars with tranny problems anyway not related to the other cars. If my tranny would go out for example it would not be related to some 02 TYPE-S models.
This is because I have a 2000 TL. If someone gets a 03 & has tranny problems it might not be related 02. But alot of people on here say my tranny is gone. This may or may not be related to the big problem & lets face it some transmission fail on all makes of cars.
