Tranny fluid level too high?

I got my car back from the dealer yesterday after a tranny replacement and checked the tranny fluid level when I got home. The fluid level was about 1/2 inch above the full mark on the dipstick.

Is this bad for the tranny? Do I take it back to the dealership? Do I give it a few days to see if the level changes?

I wouldn't worry. A car can handle having a bit more fluid than normal. When the dealer replaced my oil, they accidently put 4.9L of Mobil 1 instead of 4.7L, a difference of 200 ML, which is definitely more than just a 1/2 inch above the line, and the car is still running fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just have fun with your car...

it may be right. it is so hard to get a accurate measurement from our dipstick its not even funny. after replacing my tranny i spent alot of time with that stupid thing, i wanted to drive and drain any way and i got 3 qts out (which is ALL that will ever come out) (the tranny was completly drained and i put in 5 qts) refilled with 3 new qts. its right now, but reading the dipstick is a pain. did you check it warm? running?

I checked it while warm - not running. I checked it a few times and the measurement seems to change a little each time (go down). I'm thinking about giving it a few days of run time before I do anything.

I had the same question a while ago and several forum gurus – thank you guys! - said that overfill isn't good for transmission - it may cause foaming with all bad consequences (remember, manual reads "do not overfill" for a reason!) So, I asked my dealer to make it right and he did. Haven't had any problem since - knock on the wood!

It was always pretty smooth. The shift from 1->2 on the previous one kind'a slammed you back in your seat (under full throttle). This one is more graceful, as it may take a fraction of a second longer to fully engage second gear.

TL trannys seem to all have a hickup when they're cold. It usually only happens once - and only when they're cold. Other than that, they're fine.

What do you mean by "rough?" Could you descibe it so we could understand what you mean in more detail?
