How come you can't use the one for the 4 cylinder, it is a 5speed also? Is it a different design?

guessing its not made to handle the extra hp of a 6 cyl!

there is a list on here of best years and models to use,,and which to avoid,,
look for accord or trans swap as search terms or just scroll down

I've seen the list I was just wondering what the difference was. I figured it probably wouldn't handle the extra power

I don't think the bellhousings would mate.

Because the 4cyl and V6 bellhousings are different, along with the gearing.

Only Ford is dumb enough to put a 4 cylinder vehicles tranny on a V6 motor. 5 speed Taurus SHOs got Escort transmissions back in the day. I loved my SHO but they had trannies as bad or in my opinion worse than our TLs.

you may say that, but at least the Taurus transmissions are cheaper to fix than the TL's

I have swapped my transmission for the 06 accord transmission and the car is very fast. Not sure which tranny is faster in consideration of the tranny stopped working 1000 feet from leaving the auction center. I am passed 500 miles with the tranny swap and all is good in the neighborhood. I would suggestion changing the tranny, and it is even cheaper to get an accord tranny than the original tranny that comes with the TL. I paid $975 for a tranny with 29k miles.
