tranny

Hi, few weeks ago, my tranny began slipping alot with no warning. I had to pull over couple of times. Since then its hasnt realy slipped and engine light went off, just jerks from from first to second and second to third. Took it to the dealer and they said it was engine mounts, dindt' fix them. Since then no more jerking and no slippage. There is a warrenty for 7 years 160K km, i'm at 150k and 1999tl is in its seventh year. i would like this fixed before it runs out, what should i do? thanks

You should recreate the problem, and get it to the dealer without turning the car off. When they see al of the indicatore lights on - they'll know it's a problem.

If you believe it was the tranny, do whatever you need to do to repeat the problem before the warranty ran out.

A lot of things can make your car do things you might attribute to the tranny. I'm suprised the dealership wasn't able to get codes out of it to explain when was going on.

To answer your question, just drive like normal. If it's your tranny, the problem will happen again with more and more frequency. It wouldn't make sense to beat on your car just to find out you had a throttle position sensor going bad (happened to me this month - and caused what might be viewed by some as tranny symptoms).

citiy driving with lots of start stop shifting will heat the tranny up and cause it to act up the easiest.

Make sure you get the dealer to document the problem before the warranty runs out. Take it in, and make sure your complaint is documented on your invoice. That way if a problem occurs just after the warranty runs out, you have it documented that it started while it was under warranty, and that they didnt take care of it then.
