Question Is top speed limited?

My Z3 was limited to 136 by the computer does the 2002 TL-S have a speed limiter? Anybody know what the top speed is?

actually, the TL is drag limitted. That means our car do not have a chip restricting the top speed. Mother nature does that for us.

I read somewhere it was limited to 147mph. Don't remember how though. It would be a good idea to put it there anyway since the stock tires are only rated at 149mph.

Wrong Tom, the tl is limited only by drag and the driver's degree of sobriety. It will not, however, sustain speeds over 149mph-no tire worries.

i have gone that fast actually 2 mph faster for a a lil bit that was all the motor had, if you went any faster you would need 5th gear and you would start to decelerate cause the tl doesnt have enough hp for that gear

Thought I'd revive it just for the sake of proper information...
speed limiter kicks in @ 239kmh (148mph) using GPS. Our speedometers dont read accurately @ high speeds...mine was well past 240 and looked like it was around 250+

TL-P stock btw

My buddy tried to convince me that me car had a speed governor and could only do 160kph...I quickly proved him wrong on an empty highway. I got ice cream out of it

I think I read that the TL-S has a limiter and the TL-P doesn't?

Most ppl don't think the TL-P has a limiter just because its so much harder to reach. 148mph in a TL-P requires some "prolonged floorage" but when it kicked it...its a very strong cutoff.
@ first I thought I hit the rev limiter but I checked my revs and they were near 5700 (if I remember correctly).

I've had my old 99 TL up to 155mph. I have not taken my TLS above 120 though. I probably never will. I don't need the legal hassles. My airline job is far too important for that - but perhaps I can convince a tower controller at an airport to let me borrow his 12000ft long runway at night! haha!!

Since the speedo is off at those speeds I think you'll find some wiggle room on what people get the car up too.

Even then there will be wiggle room. Everything is off and there are a variety of variables that will effect true top speed of the car.

just saying you cant base top speed off of your speedo alone. Though mine was only 2 or so off at the speeds shown vs what the radar said.

Agreed. Speedo is a poor measure of speed. I believe mine to be off by as much as 5mph at that speed.

In my case its actually about 7-8mph deviation. Was going 239kmh (GPS) and even though the cdn speedometer only goes to 240kmh..u can tell that it was easily @ 250+. Nothing like bringing it past the posted speed haha.
I even vaguely remember a court case about how hondas/acuras of our gen would have speedometers that read speed too high.
I'm sure they all have variation though (speedometers and limiters). Mine is coincidentally right @ the tire speed limit...which makes sense.

Its this random country road with fields on either side and no entrances or exits. Id say I did about 3-4miles on that run. Road itself is probably a good 8 or 9...coulda rode the limiter if I wanted to haha.

Where the hell do you find room to go that fast, ive taken mine to only 115. I probably would have gone higher but i saw traffic coming up so i had to slow. Anyway where do you guys find room like that, ive only found a pretty empty stretch once during the day, i wont do it at night since i have no clue where the cops are

Plenty of roads around here to do it safely (as in no cars, cops, or people to injure) day or night.
