If it's really only 145 then it's governed. TL-P will do almost 150; lots of people on the TL board have gone from 145-149 or so, and one guy even posted 152.

You got to remember that the spedometers are "off" at that kind of speed. 152 on the spedometer is probably more 1ike 145 mph.

I can come up with an explaination showing that the opposite is true, that at high speeds the speedo actually shows lower than true speed.
Consider centrifugal force - when something spins, it wants to spread out. In fact, the earth actually bulges at the equator due to this effect. If your car was going 140mph+, then wouldn't the tires bulge a little, too? And when they do, they'll have a larger circumference, and therefore rotate fewer times for each unit of distance covered. Hence, speed shown on the speedometer would be lower than actual speed.

Honestly, this was a totally legitimate thread until HondaBTR saw fit to inject her inane comments. I think her words (and how creatively she spells them) speak volumes for her intellect.
Gomez:
You're right in that the circumference of the tire does increase as speed increases, but the change is very slight. So slight, in fact, that its effect on the actual road speed is almost negligible, especially at
"only" ~145mph. With that being said, it's pretty common for speedometers to be "off" at higher speeds, but again we don't know if it's reading too high or too low (without the use of radar), like you said, so we just go by what the speedo says.

I'm sure that Acura does have a set top end for the TL-S. Almost would have to
If you doubt the Speedometer, which can be off at that speed, simply use a handheld gps (preferably held by a passenger). GPS units give a very acurate speed. And its easy to point them thru the sunroof or windshield glass.
Done this on in a couple vehicles. Interesting how far off a factory speedo can be.

The 1999 and 2000 TL Service Manual doesn't show any kind of artificial speed limiting device. I think the TL/TL-S top speed, along with that of other Acuras, is drag limited.

Backyard mechanic testing: for the most part, cars are slower than their speedo (at the strip we noticed that). No proof, just taken a few runs and thought I had a certain speed only to find out it was a couple mph lower when I got my read out.
