too much oil???
I think overfilling will put added pressure into the system and you could damage piston seals with the added pressure. I may be off here, but I remember reading about this somewhere before

I don't understand your second sentance so I can't comment on whether you have the correct amount of oil or not. But, to answer your first question too much oil (when it gets to a certain point which is different for each engine) can be just as bad as too little. If the oil level is high enough it touches reciprocating parts of the engine (usually the crank shaft) it whips air into the oil turning it into a frape'. When this happens the oil pump's ability to pump is compromised and parts are not properly lubricated. The first casualty is often the bearings, when the oil film is no longer their to "float" the bearing you get metal on metal then kurchunk, kurchunk, sputter....dead.

I use to be carefull about this as well...but ever since I started using oversized filters, I'm always puttingi n 5 full quarts.
FYI...I have 78k miles on mine.
If you drain the oil all out, meaning using an incline and take the time for all of it to drain then you will use about 5 qts.... too much oild will cause the gaskets to fail and instead of lubricating the moving parts then the oil will burn... not good for any engine.....
I usually measure out 4.7 quarts, but 5 quarts is fine. One time I let it drain for like half an hour because my brother and I started playing videogames, and after filling in with 4.7 quarts, it was a bit low on the dipstick, so I put in 5 quarts.
And yeah, if you put in way too much, the crankshaft and the piston rods (the bottom part of the engine) could dip into the oil while turning, and the oil would become foamy. I won't have to stress how much protection foam would provide while the engine is turning at 6900 RPM.

I use up 5 quarts all the time and it'a always at the full hole on the dip stick. It isn't that bad if you go over the top hole. But i'am not talking about going a whole other quart or anything like that. If you go over just a little it's ok. Especially if your always reving to redline.
