TL's transmission is on last leg.

So it's finally my turn. Bought the car in Feb 02 (TL) and today it has about 81K miles as indicated. My tranny finally "slipping"..it's banging into gear or getting "stuck in" a gear (rpm rises then finally releases and you can feel the "clunk" as it slam into the next gear. It hasn't totally gone but it's 99.9% there i think.

Is it still under warranty coverage? Anyone know of hand? I'm not in a financial position to shell out $5K for repair nor afford a new car with this wonderful economy

Okay, took the car in and it's has 2 months warranty left. Bought it on Feb 13th 2002 and warranty is 7 years and 9 months so basically 2 months or a little less left...so I'm good so far (80K miles is under 100K warranty for transmission).

Anyways....hopefully they will replace the transmission and ECU and hopefully it will last awhile until the economy picks up and I can afford a freaking new car..

Here's the problem low down. The car drives, but the transmission is slipping....car shift from 1st to 2nd...then it stuck there until about 6k rpm before shift to 3rd...there is a "thug" when it shifts. Anyhow, hopefully the tech will "see" this and fix it bc I don't think I'm too far away from total failure....I do need to get this taken cared of now before my 2 months warranty is up though

The car is sitting at the dealership right now awaiting its fate (diagnose). Wish me luck guys.

if you think its gonna last longer then warranty then go, talk to dealer now.. it would suck to "just miss" the warranty cut-off

7 years 9 month warranty....so you have until nov 2009....or is it from the manufacturing date? but you should be covered in FULL. get mounts done if yours are broken (usually are) for another couple hundred, and if you pay a little so it's not 100% warranty coverage, you can increase your warranty on the new transmission from 1yr/12k to 3yr/36k....worth it for the peace of mind IMO

but still get it in there asap!

you can only pay a portion and get the 3/36 warranty if you are past the time or miles limit
and Acura is doing a goodwill warranty

Warranty is from date of first sale to customer off the dealer lot
Acura care can provide that date

Okay, the tech test drove the car and declared it need a new tranny (duh!). Anyways, gotta wait like a week to get it. I didn't get a loaner because I'll traveling to Boston next week anyways so don't need one.
let's hope the new tranny will last another 50K miles or so until I can afford a new car. I am seriously tired of this tranny issue....(although i love the TL and its engine...just not the tranny)

btw, the tech said the rear engine mount is fine (I replaced the front and sides myself already).

BTW, is there any "additional" warranty with this new tranny installed? Another 3/36K miles warranty? can someone confirm this??? Or is it if I "pay for it" only?

this appears to be your first trans failure- so why is it such a big deal?

if you have read any of the tranny failure thread you know about the improvements and the fact they have to order a replacement trans for your car- it has to be shipped 2-4 days, then installed

All will be well

opinions on acurazine are not always up with acuras latest policy

thanks...turned out my TL still have a few months of warranty left. They installed a newly redesigned tranny (2005 rev) and a new ECU. Drive like a new car now
Hopefully it'll last me awhile
