Post TL3.2 Spoiler

Dealer tells me the aftermarket spoiler for the TL3.2 will disable the remote trunk open! Is this dealer hype or true? The factory spoiler is too damned expensive?

I wonder if what he meant was that some aftermarket tails are too heavy so when you pop the trunk, it wont open up like its supposed too. Maybe it even stays shut. ANyways, just an idea...

I think there is a spring kit you can get to fix the problem - so when you press the trunk release it pops up...

He just wants you to buy his, and pay him $70/hr service fee. Get any aftermarket you want, it will work, unless it ways a heck of a lot more. I mean like 50 pounds more.

I was told that when they put the factory spoiler on they do something to the trunk springs. So as long as you do whatever the dealer does, you should be fine.

Thumbs up

I DON'T HAVE MY SPOILER ON YET, BUT I AM ALMOST POSITIVE THERE IS A SECTION IN THE MANUAL THAT TELLS YOU HOW TO ADJUST THE TENSION ON TRUNK SO YOU CAN MAKE THEM TIGHTER SO THEY WILL POP UP WITH THE ADDED WEIGHT. REGARDLESS THE DEALER IS WRONG YOU WILL STILL POP THE TRUNK, IT WON'T JUST NOT OPEN IF YOU DON'T ADJUST THE TENSION!

On an unrelated issue, I think the spoiler "makes" the look of the rear end of the TL, from good to excellent.

He's full of it.. You need to re-tension the springs on the trunk to handle the added weight of the wing, that's it... the trunk will still open, but it won't bounce up the 2 inches that it usually does..

The dealer is wrong again... never listen to those idiots.. they lie about everything and dont totally know the product they sell. I am sure many more people on here know more things about the TL than the dealer himself, thst is why it is so funny I went to look at a TL the other day and I was teaching the dealer stuff instead of vice versa...

How do you "re-tension" the spring?
