are tl type s wheels 17x7.5?
#3
They are 17X6.5 I think, 1/2 inch narrower than the CL-S wheels which look similar but have a smooth outer lip(looks like there is no lip). Why didn't Acura use the same wheel for both I don't know. It must be a valid reason being that it cost's more to produce two different wheels even though they look similar.

The reason for the 6.5" wide wheel on the TL-S is for crash worthiness. The 7.0" wheel on the TL-S presented some problems with intrusion into the interior of the vehicle in the event of a high speed front end collision.

i think the reason that they are 6.5 instead of 7.0 is that the 7.0 stick out and everyone complains that they have scratch marks from running into curbs.

First of all, I wasn't run out of anywhere. I left the CL forum because I was growing tired of the infantile behavior. I work for Honda Motor Company, and no, I am not joking about the reason for the size difference.
If you don't believe it's true, measure the front track on a TL-S and CL-S. You'll find the measurement to the outside of the wheels is the same, but the inside is 1" wider on the TL-S. This is also the reason for the different radius rods on the front of these 2 cars. Every other component is the same.....stabilizer bar, links, control arms, bushings......only the radius rods and wheels are different.
If you don't believe me, research it. You'll find that everything I've stated above is true.

SSMAN66,
Can you get word to he designers of the TL-S and tell them thanks for making wheel replacement such a pain in the A$$
Really limits your choices on what you can put on this car. I haven't found an aftermarket wheel above a +50 offset, except for a suburu only wheel that had a +52.
And if my understanding of offset is correct, if you have a +55 offset on a 6.5 rim, you would need an increasingly larger offset each time you increase the wheel size....
I have spent more time trying to decide what rims to get than I did on what car to get...

Canadian vehicles do not have the 17 x 7.0 wheels. The part # from the catalog for both markets is 42700-S0K-J20. The description in both catalogs is "disk, aluminum wheel (17X6 1/2 JJ)

Note this is a step up from the base TL. The TL gets 6.5", TL-S gets 7.0".
I also remember when I first started looking at a TL-S, I visited the dealer and asked about the wheel size because somewhere (?) I had seen they were 7.0" wide rims. Dealer looks it up and says no, only Canadian spec TL-Ss have 7.0". All US-bound get 6.5".

I pulled the part # and specs from Acuralink for both markets. What they are printing in sales brochures doesn't coincide with what is showing in the parts master. I also validated the parts catalog information through engineering. Everything and everyone is saying 6.5".......except for your sales brochure.

I know aaalllll too well how accurate the dealers can be I don't doubt you for a second about the brochure. I've learned to not classify anything as "always" or "never" in this business. I'm really intrigued about this. I had a very very in-depth discussion with engineering about the wheel size issue 2 weeks ago. I'll do some digging on the Canadian wheels. I'll let you know what I find

I've got an '02 3.2 TL that I'm "restoring" and modifying. I desperately want a pair of '02 3.2 TL Type-S wheels that are genuine OEM Acura. Does anyone know the weight of the wheels or the process with which they were built? Where's a good place to buy a new pair of genuine Type-S rims and how much should I pay? I've seen various Acura dealers on the web selling them new for as low as $180, but that doesn't seem like the bloated Acura prices I'm used to. Also, I plan to install an Eibach Pro Plus System on the car, do any of you think I'll have issues with clearance or anything? I'm a n00b so any wisdom is much appriciated.

my buddys got the eibach pro kit with the shocks and struts. sits real good on his cls. shouldnt be too different from the tls. theres about a finger gap if i remember correctly. no clearance issues with tls wheels on it.

I got the Shifts

1st. dont bump these old ass threads. since the cars are old u can get the wheels fairly cheap. keep in mind the accord 6mt wheels look just like the type-s wheels and only have a diff center caps.
craigslist lists the fat five type-s wheels anywhere from 200-500 for a set.

Great thanks for the info. I got my local Acura dealer to weigh the wheels and they're about 23.5lbs (give or take) so they're definitely heavier than the 16's I'm rolling now. What size tires does your friend have and does he have any break work done? I was planning to upgrade the breaking system as well.
