Thumbs up NICE KILL !!!!!

a 330Ci/auto is fast enough to beat an Accord V6, but not fast enough to simply walk away from one. I'm not surprised you were able to pull on him like that in your TL-S.

Watch out for the stick shift ones though - they will definitely give you a very good race!

I think the 330i with manual will give you a very breath-taking race. BMW auto just plain sucks. =D thumb up!!

Depends on the road

The TLS on paper will accelerate better on a straight line. I felt smooth when took one for a drive. When you go on the twisty's, the BMW will do better. Both are very good cars.

Don't care what the magazine says. I've raced my friends 330 many times. Who ever gets the best launch from stop, or who ever gets the best gear change while moving wins. The cars are very close, it's typical to hand wins back and for in the real world.

Motortrend

Motor Trend's time can be quite optimistic. Hey I checked out the member's rating.

AC -> you rating looks cool :-) I am still a newbie.

Haha, I think I was one of the first 20 or so people on this forum so I guess I do have no life...

BTW, when BMW tests their cars for 0-60 and 1/4 times, they have driver and passenger, 150 lbs of crap in the trunk and a full tank of gas. I don't quite remember where I read that. Another words, BMW's numbers are very conservative vs. Motor Trend. In any case I like the conservative numbers from BMW cuz to me they are the most "real life" driving numbers. C'mon, how often are we gonna drive by ourselves with 1/4 tank of gas and either tourque break or grind the hell out of the clutch everyday.

I do believe that 5.9 Seconds is possible on a 330Ci, but under astronomical situations (ie. down hill). Between the TLS and 330Ci, I think the outcome can go either way. Yes I believe that some of you have "smoked" these 330Ci's, but I also belive the Bimmer.org guys when they claim they've smoked the TLS. Either way, can't say one car is better than the other just cuz "I smoked it"

My 3 pennies...

People here say TL-S can go 0-60 in 6.2-6.6 sec.

So why is www.acura.ca say that TL-S do 0-60 in 7.2 and CL-S in 6.8sec?

I seem to remember seeing a time of 5.8 for a 330xi in one of the big car magazines. Seemed kinda fast but I'm sure they did it. Not realistic for the everyday driver.

Anyway, chalk one up for the good guys.

330i

I also recall seeing (various sources, but more than one) sprint times of high 5s and low 6s for the 330i w/manual.

If I recall, the e46 328i ran 0-60 in 6.2-6.6, so its not so hard to believe the 330i can run high 5s and borderline 6s.

If I had the cash money, I would choose this car over the TLS, unfortunately... it has a certain.. je ne sais quois..

redline - 330xi is the AWD version.. that adds alot of weight, and those cars are much slower. no chance in hell that its going to be getting sub 6 0-60 times...

I read the MT article where they achieved the 5.8 0-60mph stat, and I also read the comment about this issue (and this article inparticular) a few issues later, it went something like this:

Reader:
"My friends and I cannot believe that the 330Xi attained a faster 0-60mph time than the 330Ci (RWD), with 5.8 seconds. I think it's a misprint and you should have written 6.8 seconds. If this isn't the case, then either you revved very high and dropped clutch, and the AWD helped w/ the launch...<etc>, which is it?"

Motortrend:

"The last thing you suggested is correct. The power band on the 330Xi is a broad and flat as Kansas, and the AWD helped as well. We also did drop clutch at a pretty high rpm, and that's how the 330Xi achieved such a heroic 0-60 time."

Believe what you want, the AWD doesn't add more than 250lbs, and that's not a huge significance in the 0-60 .. it's more an issue in your 1/4-mile when you'll see a few tenths add on to your ET. AWD usually always get outta the hole better than RWD/FWD by shear four wheel traction alone. 1/4-mile times are up for grabs, however, and aren't biased towards RWD or AWD.

No way stock 0-60 is 6.2. I've test drove two now. Neither one was as quick to 60 as my GTP. Smoother, quiter, more sophisticated and all the other superlatives the car deserves.....but no way as quick off the line. Best GTP times I've seen in any mag is 6.6. Maybe the engines need more break-in time. One I drove had about 40 miles on it; the other was a saleperson's car that had about 3000 on it. I didn't notice much difference.

believe it or not, I beat a 530i sport manual with my Legend. I am dead serious, I could see the guy's face after he was behind me.

All I had was a K&N filter with mobil 1 10W30.

Those BMW has so much low end. I was unable to get him at first gear, but at second 45000rpm, I flew from 80km all the way to 120km/h. From there, I was leading.

i stand corrected.. nice motortrend citation..
but its still hard to believe that an additional 250lbs (depite AWD) can propel that car to such a low 0-60....

530s are still slow. It's nothing more than a revamped 528, and that was slow too. I think they ran high 7s, low 8s, so if your legend is a 5 speed with those noted mods, you should have no prob beating one.

now the 540 is a different story..

0-60 times with an AWD car are usually lower than the FWD/RWD version because you can rev up to the redline and just pop the clutch and get instant traction/acceleration. My stock Talon Tsi AWD would have a 1.5 car lengths on a 5.0 Mustang when I shifted out of 1st gear because of the instant start out of the hole. I don't think many 330 xi drivers are willing to do that to their cars, so any race would be up for grabs. According to one source, the TL-S is 0.1 seconds faster to 60 and 0.6 seconds faster to 100 than a manual 330. Unfortunately, after 100 mph or once you hit 4th gear, it's all over for us...
