Post The TL-S is SLOW when...

...when I had three friends in the car w/ me. Two of 'em were about 180 lbs each, while one is well over 230 lbs. I dropped into second gear w/ SS expecting somewhat of a response -- I mashed the gas -- NOTHING. No juice, no awesome high rev .. no VTEC, no nothing. I guess that's the difference between a car that gets 6.3 seconds in the 0/60 w/ a V6 vs. a car that gets that SAME result with a V8.

Oh well.

isn't the formula for horsepower for every 100 extra pounds in the car it's equal to 10 less horsepower? I think I read that somewhere....

So... with your friend's weight plus yours, calling you at about 180 (I have no idea) that's around 770 pounds added weight in the car which is the equal to 77 less horsepower. Of course the car is going to be slower

I could be talking out of my a$$ as to the formula, but I swore I was told that when I put my system in my last car and it seemed slower after.

What I noticed when I had 4 people plus me in the car was that not only did the car CRAWL, but I found braking to be difficult like the car didn't want to stop as quick.

A-ha. You've found the difference between horsepower and torque. Also consider that you're adding 15%+- to the weight of the car.

Ummm, it makes sense though! You seem to walk slower when carrying stuff, right?

For every 100 pound you lost 10hp? What about a the air drag coefficient with a spoiler and body kit?!

SInce you are so smart with forumla, calculate that!

Trust me -- I drove real slow despite their constant "hey, punch it past this mustang man!!!" ... I didn't want them to discover what I discovered...

I was driving two people and I noticed the same thing. I had to pull out in traffic real quick and it was almost embarrassing.

Actually a good body kit will lower the drag coefficient, that's the whole idea of adding it. The underside of the car isn't a smooth as the top. By adding ground effects, you actually create a slight vacuum under the car. That way there isn't as much air under there to catch on all the stuff under there.

Cool

I can't believe this! I am 300 lbs, had my wife, daughter and mother-in-law in the car yesterday. I would guess our total weight at 700 lbs and I was flying! I had no problems taking off from a light, passing cars on the freeway, or coming to a stop. It was obviously not as quick as when I am alone, but I did not feel that the car was that much slower.

Think of how quickly you would have gotten off the line without your mother-in-law...

Lonny -- buddy,

It's SLOW w/ 700 pounds of people in it -- trust me -- I don't know what car you drove before the TL-S, so I ain't going there, but I know the difference w/ just me (185lbs) and the situation w/ my three buddies in the car -- the car was takin' its sweet time!!!
