TL-S looks
Is it just me or does that big grill give the car a goofy look. It kindda reminds me of someone with a shnoss (nose) so big it basically makes up the whole face. anyone know what i'm talkin about?

I like the new engine, 6 in-dash CD, more sporty seat, fog light, clear tial light, and the VSA. But I honestly think that the new head light doesn't look good AT ALL!!!
I mean it might look more aggresive to some, but I think it lost the elegance. Well, doesn't matter that much to me, now. I think I am getting rid of my TL ASAP, and NO! I am not after the TL-S for sure.
Well, but who cares about what I drive after... sorry that I wasted your time...

You guys are on crack.
The new TLS looks nice. Just imagine the new race blue color dropped rollin on some chrome alstadts with 5% tint all around bumpin some shit out of 12inch dual subs in the trunk. Now that is nice.

I'm with Mafioso and SL12, although I like the improvements and the new "clear" headlights (without diffuser) I prefer the grill and hood of the 99-01 TLs. I am not sold on that new hood that's all grill and lights. I think the 2nd gen hoods are nicer...oh and I like our side mirrors better too! When I finally get rid of my TL in a few years, it won't be for a TL, by then I'll want an MB-AMG!

Colin @ Acura told us at the Hawaii meet that
the reason for the front end change was that
it was cost effective to change the
hood(front end) because this curve from the
hood for the 99-01 TL was very expensive so now the hood opens up above the grill and doesn't go down like the 99-01 TL's.......

i'm not sayin i don't like the TL-S, but i'd be tough if i had to decide between our current gen TL's or the 02 TL-S. I love the improvements the TL-S has, but then again, I think our TL's DO look better, and not as goofy lookin

Don't want to offend anyone getting the TL-S. It's a great car, S-engine, 6-disk, mem seats and fogs. But the front grill, just ruins the nice front end that our TL's have.
The fogs also isn't too impressive looking.
my 2 cents...
And is it just me that they made the acura symbol and lettering huge on the car?

Has it been confirmed that the new hood opens above the grill? Looking at the pics
from the Detroit show, it kind of looks like there is a break in the grill. While that doesn't change the appearance *too much*, I do like the way the grill is integrated into the hood on the '99-'01 better. That and
the hydraulic supports for the hood (So you don't have to deal with one of those stupid bars to hold it up) make the car seem more luxurious to me.
I'm still of the opinion that Acura is shooting a little too low. I'd rather have a $35k TL (with a $40k+ V8 big brother please!) than have a car that Acura cut a lot of corners on to maintain the $28.5k price.
Can anyone give any input on Mercedes or BMW build quality? Does it feel like they cut corners anywhere? Is the cost so much higher on their vehicles because they go balls out without cutting corners, or are they just overcharging for "brand prestige"?
One of the things that irritated me with my '93 Accord is that the dealer's answer to problems such a squeaks, rattles, wind noise, etc. was "That's normal in these cars". With my TL, I demand nothing short of perfection (or at least as much perfection as is perceivable by me). I can tolerate little things going wrong with the car such as the rattles and the tail lights that keep burning out, as long as it's free from mechanical defect, and the little things get fixed.

IMHO, the front end of the TL-S looks nice. I must admit that I initially did not like the front end on my TL that much. This was mainly b/c of the two covers on either corners. I would've liked it alot more if it had factory fogs.
Come on shoof, move this to the TLS forum.
This would be a good topic for that forum.

Blech... I didn't like the Mugen grill on Silver cars, but I like it even less on this car. I thought the original 99-01 TL grill was too large, but this new one just can't help but make the current design look nice by comparison.

They don't cut corners in Benzes at all. My relatives got a E class. Smooth and quiet.
The TL-S doesn't look that great. Looks like that tried to pull off what BMW did with their 3 series and X5 bottom headlight finisher. The new grille makes it look more like a RL.

Hey ARALON, it is interesting that you say the rear bulbs to your TL burn out. I have noticed several TL running lights and brake lights burnt out, Whats up with that? Yet on my 1998 Accord EXV6 and all my other 5 Honda vehicles never had one light burn out including an Acura Vigor. Did the dealer advise why this is common. I would expect the same lights for rear tailamps in my 1998 Accord and your TL as they are made at the same plant.
Also, I have only seen CL-s models and photos of the TL-s and I really like the front end. I am planning to attend the toronto Auto shoe in Feb. 2001 and I hope to see one in person at which time I will form a better opinion. I expect I will get one of these, or the regular TL.

Soundspeed, you are the man. How ridiculous is it that you have to play kindergarden teacher to people who are supposed to be discussing automobiles?
I am laughing out loud right now at how silly this gets....anyway...I think the TL-S front end looks worse than my '01 TL. I agree with people who keep suggesting that the TL will go through more substantial improvements for '02-'03.

SoundSpeed, thanks for keeping this topic to a civilized pro vs. con discussion.
Talk about nitpicking! The con-folks are ready to write off the TL-S because of the grill?! It's like saying, "I wouldn't have sex with Pamela Anderson because her feet are one size too big." Give me a break. Try taking a look at the car as a whole. I'd have to guess that with the 260 hp, most drivers will be seeing much more of the rear of my TL-S than the front.

I have to say as a non TL owner, I like the front end of the new TL-S more then the old one. Since I do not own one, I have to say that I am not too familiar with the exact details of the front end. I do know that to me it seems a bit too bland, enough that my wife is more interested in the CL rather then the TL. With the new TL-S though, I might be able to change her mind.
I also think it is natural to dislike a newer version of your car when you have spend hard earned money on a previous model. I once had a 94 MX6, and I hated the new wheels that they put on the 95+ models. I bet if I had bought the 95, I would have loved them more then the 94-.
Also, my car has recently had the taillights revised for this year. Guess what, I like mine better! But I bet the people driving the new model like theirs more then mine. At least that's what I believe...

BLEXV6,
The dealer wasn't able to offer any insight in to why this is a common problem with the TL. I too have seen numerous TLs on the road with tail lamps out. The brake lights appear to function properly in all of them though. I concur that the bulbs are probably exactly the same as the ones used in the Accord and probably a variety of other Hondas. Perhaps there is some part of the electrical system operating out of spec causing the burnouts. The dealer didn't charge me for replacement of the last one, and I'm sure they won't charge me for this one either.. but it is an annoyance that I'd prefer not to see in my next car. (CLK430 is looking gooood)

Phatboy, I noticed on the Edmunds board that you said the Tl will also be available in March-April. Reliable source on this info? Was going for an 01 TL, but got interested in the early release of the TL-S. If Tl & TL-S are here at same time, I won't need to wait for Sept/Oct for comparing. Cleveland dealers don't have any info on Tl timing.

Jimbo, all sources (including many dealers) say that the TL-S will be in showrooms in mid-March. The dealer who took my deposit on the TL-S said the same thing. I assume that the base '02 TL will be released at the same time. Does anyone know differently?
Thanks for noticing my posts on Edmunds. I have been able to get valuable information from both Edmunds and Acura-tl.com. The sites have somewhat different purposes, but both are fun to read and post to.
