I noticed a strange rattle coming from the rear of my 2002 TL. It was not very loud and only happens when I go over a bump.

I took it to the dealer to have it checked out, and it turned out to be the exhaust system. Apparently the exhaust system is placed on rubber mounts, and it can swing back and forth slightly. So it turned out that this is something normal. The tech tightened up everything to try to reduce any noise.

I just felt better knowing where that sound was coming from.

 

i hear the same thing.. but i think its my back seats *shrugs*.. having it checked out monday

I got

1. back seat rattle
2. driver's seat making funny noise EVERYDAY!
3. the engine check light pops up at least once a month and the dealer can't do and won't do anything crap about it

4. even my tranny started to acting weird...

Not to scare you but I think Acura treat people like $hit, and once you got a lemon, end of story for you. Well, in the mean time I am gonna live with mine until my new car arrive sometime next spring!

 

I looked under my TL this morning and it turns out that the right muffler is actually tapping the body of the car. I am taking it into the dealer again tomorrow. This is definitely not normal.

 

I've had a rattle that only happens when I go over bumps and I couldn't find it for months. Turns out it is the two grey plastic trim panels that are in between the rear window and the backdoor windows. If I push lightly on certain spots, they make a clicking tapping sound. Doesn't seem like a big deal but it gets worse over time and when the radio is off I wanna pull the panels off to keep my sanity. I'd check them out before you mess with exhaust.

yeah i have a strange sound coming form the front seat belts...and also my SRS comes on like once in a blue moon..scares da hell out of me cuz i don't know wat else is gonna happen...

 

This whole car rattles! Just give it time. I used to get everything checked out at the dealer, But now, It's just a waste.

I've got the backseat rattles too. It's either the plastic moldings between the rear glass and the rear doors or the parcel shelf or the rear seats. I'm going to have it checked.

At first, my TL had no noises at all. Now, after some 6k miles, noises are popping up here and there. How's that for build quality?

I got some rattles in my 00 TL as well, they were all minor except the sunroof (sunroof was driving me crazy). I got most of them fixed but not all.. I have owned my car for a year and few months, i got so used to it now, doesn't bother me anymore.

 

Well, just got back from the dealer. He lubricated the rubber bracket holding the exhaust sytem, and that seemed to do the trick.

Luckily that was the only noise I have been hearing. Hopefully, the sunroof rattle was fixed for the 2002s.

 

When your SRS light comes on, do you have a passenger at the time? I'm not sure which car you have, but in the 2001 CL Type S, the SRS light will come on as part of the occupant detection system. Basically, if the front passenger is in the path of the side airbag (e.g., leaning against the window) it will light up, but it should go out when the path is clear. This may or may not apply to your car. Hope this helps.

 

Remember, these car's aren't perfect....

Yup, mine rattles in the back somewhere too. Everything was OK when it was new then the weatherstripping around the driver's door started to make noise then the front passenger seat now it there is some noise from the back when I drive over bumpy roads. Ah, I miss the Japanese produced Hondas.

 

The SRS light will come on if the passenger detection system senses something in the way, and de-activates the passenger side airbag on the fly. Works the same way in my Accord, and freaked me out as well until I RTFM and it was in there.

It happens if you have a very small wife (under 100 lbs) and she leans over, the seat thinks she's a child

It also happens if you have a CD book or fast-food on the front passenger seat.

Mine didnt rattle then one day WHAM got hit at 50 MPH and I was stopped. Needless to say, I have a few. Not as many as I thought I would.
