TL Mileage/Top Speed

TL Mileage/Top Speed
At the 1,000 mile mark, I had the oil changed at the Acura dealership. I just recently hit 17.5 MPG, on my last fill up. I still think it is low. Maybe I just drive it too hard. I did have it out on a stretch of open road last week. I was pretty impressed that at 135 MPH (indicated on speedometer) it was still climbing strong. This car should be good for 145-150MPH top speed. Any body agree with me? Also, how off is the speedometer at those speeds. I know that my speedo is accurate at 60, because I have matched it against one of those portable radar units the police set up on the sides of roads.

I've seen an indiated 145. That was probably more like 138-140 considering speedo error, but I don't have a gun (the dummy radar signs only read to 99mph in KY where I was driving!).
I also got 330 mi/ 13.6 gal in normal mixed driving (70/30 in favor of highway), 430+mi/ 13.6 gal in pure highway. I don't really drive pure city, so I can't compare. 17. seems low. However, I had a TL-p, not -s.

Worse yet, why are you doing 135mph when you're still in your break-in period????

After confirming with several Acura dealerships, I was told that there was no "break in period." Although I believe this is BS, I didn't drive it hard until I had over 1,500 miles on it. I am now over 3,000 miles, and it was after that mark I had it to 135 MPH. The top speed and the gas mileage are 2 independent questions of one another. I should have made that distinction. Sorry!

You're right about drag, but your power figures are way off -- You don't need 450hp to go 150mph. A 320hp Supra will attain 155mph (limited) and their coefficient of drag (with the rear spoiler) is a mere .01 lower.
LOVE your tagline, by the way. Very funny and VERY true.

True indeed but the supra is also moreslippery than the TL. My Honda RC51 motorcycle has about 130hp and will do 165mph topped out. The drag on it is a limiting factor. I'll have to find the calculation for speed ves. power.
I'm glad you like the line at the bottom

I was cruizing down the freeway the other night and wanted to test the top speed of our tl. I got it up to 147 mph. Then it seemed like the engine cuts back. I've got 10k miles on the car. The freeway was pretty clear so it was pretty fun. Objects appear farther than they really are
